#634 Psilocybin Retreats in Amsterdam with Chi and Leti
Chi's Bio For most of my life, I battled addiction, depression, and low self-esteem. In my 20’s, I spent a total of 16 months in silent retreat, including a month in darkness. I went to Burma twice to take temporary monastic vows and practice with the monks. I tried really hard to heal myself. Still, I was unfulfilled. I lacked discipline and was unable to keep up a practice on my own. I constantly fell back into patterns of misery.I was desperate. In my longing for happiness, I finally took the plunge into my first psychedelic experience with five tabs of LSD (the recommended starting dose is ~1 tab). Wow! What a shock to my psyche. For a long time, I thought psychedelics were “dangerous” and “bad.” I wrote them off as drugs for immature people. Now, I realized I’d been told a lie all along. As Terrence McKenna says, “psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.” Soon after my LSD journey, I had my first experience with magic mushrooms, and my life has been transformed ever since. I’m honored to be called by the mushroom to serve as a humble messenger for the psilocybin vision of love, interconnectedness, and peace. I am happy to be able to serve those who are called to experience the magic. My job is to listen, hold space, practice patience, and love. Leti’s Bio When I was 9, I took my mom’s side in her bitter divorce with my dad. I cut off contact with him, “the bad guy,” and didn’t see or speak with my dad for 25 years. While living with my mom, I was driven by fear of not being the perfect daughter. I didn’t want to cause my mom worry so I created a mental checklist for myself — be quiet (invisible when possible), study hard, go to college, get a good job, and get a steady boyfriend. I accomplished these things, but still felt incomplete. After college, I worked 16 years at a big organic cosmetics company trying to fit into the corporate world. My desires to be seen as a perfect daughter manifested themselves in my relationships with my bosses and co-workers. I became successful and started making a lot of money, but I knew the corporate world would never fulfill me. After realizing how much joy yoga and meditation brought in my life, I finally mustered up the courage to leave my high-paying job and started diving deeper into my practice. When I had my first psilocybin journey in Thailand, I felt I had discovered a miracle. The more journeys I have and the more people I guide through their own experiences, the more my heart opens to the beautiful and sad mystery of life. Magic truffles have helped me connect with mother earth and higher consciousness. They’ve helped me work through deep traumas. In my mind truffles are the healers and I am just their humble servant. My life is dedicated to creating safe, caring, and loving environments so people can experience the healing powers of magic psilocybin truffles.

#633 The Quest to Create Personally Transformative Apps with Entrepreneur Steve Curtis
Steve Curtis is an investor, entrepreneur, adventurer and revolutionary thought leader. Raised by a low-income single mother, Steve started his first business at 19 with a $500 credit card and grew it into a business with a half-billion dollar valuation before he sold it. Today, he leads a group of globally-impactful companies and non-profits spanning natural pharmaceuticals, consumer package goods, film, hospitality, technology and venture capital. Steve’s career trajectory changed radically at age 24 when he was diagnosed with a terminal cancer for which there was no cure and only 2 years left to live. Steve hired an MD, built a research team and traveled the world to develop a cure. From researchers at global expert centers like Yale and Stanford to healers and shamans in far-off jungles, he sought to cure the incurable. Learning he couldn’t make a drug fast enough, he followed the trail of “spontaneous remission," setting the prognosis-defying goal of summiting Everest instead. Five years later, he had done both. Healing without the use of any modern medicine, he was left with unquestionable truth and a vision for changing medicine globally. Steve channeled his passion into writing a book to teach his insights, creating a foundation to advance research in healing, and developing a number of businesses that all center around creating the state of awareness that allowed him to heal. Steve has become an influential thought leader in international politics and has influenced the lives of millions of people through the products he has created. His venture capital business is advancing new perspectives in science, medicine and technology with investments in AI, quantified self, VR, AR, spiritual science, block-chain, and psychedelic medicine.

I am telling her something and she does not know the answer or is unsure of it. So she gets out her black cell phone and makes a call, to a mentor or superior I assume. The next thing we are standing on a spiral stairs, my psychologist is one or two steps higher than me, we are both around the middle. On top of the stairs there is a black woman, probably in her 60s, very smartly dressed in black. She seems serious but not stern, like someone with natural authority / gravitas. She has a black cell phone and I gather that she is the person my therapist called. She says (the answer is) blue bird (blue jay?). Then I look down my hands and I see I am holding a blue bird in them. Context: I'm not in therapy so I have no therapist. My older children (18, 20) have left home and we have had a few losses in our lives. I am married and feel like my life has been in transition for the past five years. Feelings: it wasn't emotionally charged. Mostly surprise to see the bird in my hands. Needs explaining: I'm not in therapy now (never did Jungian therapy).

#611 – Charles Tauber MD on Training Volunteers to Deal with The Traumas of War
Charles David Tauber MD grew up in a family of immigrants in New York City. He has worked in movements for social change since 1966, starting with the environmental and peace movements. He studied chemistry and physics at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, where he also was active with the first actions of Greenpeace and with non-violent civil disobedience actions in the 1970s. He then studied medicine in Groningen, The Netherlands. After obtaining his medical qualification, he began to work with asylum seekers and refugees with the joint Amnesty International-International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War Medical Examination Group and other local and regional groups in their support of asylum seekers and refugees’ efforts to obtain asylum. Also, he and other physicians were treating asylum seekers where other doctors weren’t willing to. They also were educating and psychologically supervising volunteers and staff members of other organizations working with asylum seekers. When the wars in the former Yugoslavia broke out in the early 1990s, a number of the members of those groups formed a working group, from which the Coalition for Work with Psychotrauma and Peace, the CWWPP, was born. Tauber has worked in the former Yugoslavia as head of the CWWPP since June 1995. The aim of the CWWPP is to increase capacity at the grassroots level to work with psychological trauma and its physical consequences. The organization works with war victims and “people on the move”, otherwise known as migrants. The CWWPP uses a highly participatory method known as Pragmatic Empowerment Training, or PET, to assist people without previous education to assist one another. PET groups are given onsite and online without charge to the participants. Today’s episode is brought to you by Calm: The #1 App for Meditation, Sleep and relaxation. #609 – Using the Muse Meditation Trainer with Founder Ariel Garten
Ariel Garten is a neuroscientist, innovator, mother, and entrepreneur whose driving purpose is to empower and help others overcome mental obstacles in order to live healthy, happy lives and reach their maximum potential. She is the Founder of InteraXon, the makers of Muse: the brain sensing headband. Muse is the award-winning wearable technology that assists and trains meditation and mindfulness. You can find her 2011 TED talk where she explains a bit about the technology. Before founding InteraXon, Ariel was not only trained as a neuroscientist and psychotherapist, but also started her own international clothing line while she worked in labs researching Parkinson’s disease and hippocampal neurogenesis. Her creativity and entrepreneurial head combined with her fascination with the brain lead her to join forces with two likeminded friends, the later co-founders of InteraXon. Together they founded a Silicon Valley backed startup that allowed people to control computers with their minds, the technology that sparked the creation of Muse. Her team’s technology has been featured in over 1000 media pieces, as well as was the feature showcase at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, an installation that allowed over7,000 people control the lights on the CN tower, Canadian parliament buildings, and Niagara Falls with their brains from across the country. These days, Ariel can be found at home playing with her 2 year old or on stage across the world speaking about happiness, meditation, understanding mental health, or telling her own innovation story, consistently giving her audiences the tools they need to help them become their best selves. #606 – Tips for Overcoming Chronic Illness with Dr. Steven G. Fox
Steven G. Fox Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist who has been in practicing for over thirty years. He was diagnosed with MS in 1991. After fifteen years of deteriorating, having a leg brace, and using a cane with regular severe falls, he developed a program that led to his multiple sclerosis going into remission. His personal story enters in a lot, of course, as he was physically abused as a child. Using the most advanced medical approaches available, he forged an alternative/spiritual/medical/psychotherapy approach that led to his primary progressive multiple sclerosis going into remission. It is believed that many of the approaches he used could be helpful to others with chronic disease. In addition, the author considers it a case study in how child abuse can make one more vulnerable to chronic illness. It is a very personal approach that the author hopes will help others develop their best individualized methods of treatment. #594 – Breaking The Silence on Childhood Sexual Abuse with Rosenna Bakari PhD
594RosennaBakariChildhood SexualAbuse Rosenna Bakari is a scholar, motivational speaker, and social advocate. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado in 2000. She earned her Master’s degree in Counseling from the State University of New York and her undergraduate degree in psychology from Cornell University. Dr. Bakari has authored four books related to women’s issues. She published her first book in 1994 on Black women’s self-esteem. In 2016 she published two titles, a daily reader for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, titled “Tree Leaves”, and a book titled “Original Sin”, which reinterprets the infamous story through a feminist lens that confronts rape culture and patriarchy. Her fourth book is her memoir about living in silence as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Dr. Bakari is also the founder and executive director of Talking Trees, an empowerment organization for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. She is also launching a new “We2” movement to bring survivor and listeners together to break the silence of sexual abuse. In addition to her organization work, she hosts a monthly open mic to share her transformational poetry and offer a platform for community members to share their passion and pain. She is the author of the 2018 book, "Too Much Love Is Not Enough: A Memoir of Silence of Childhood Sexual Abuse." The book has been described as a UV light that reveals the dreadful stain of silence - presenting irrefutable evidence that harm has been done in spite of the squeaky-clean surface. When the systems on which Rosenna relied failed her, she found her way through the darkness using unconventional sources such as poetry and martial arts. She weaved through bitterness and anger in a world that seemed hell-bent on breaking the spirit and believes others can too because trauma should not have the final word Get A 10% discount on all my courses below through the Zur Institute using the discount code: DRDAVE88 Check out the following Psychology CE Courses based on listening to Shrink Rap Radio interviews, offered through Zur Institute: Jungian Psychotherapy Part 1 (6 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 2 (7 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 3 (7 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 4 (6 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 5 (7 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Package of the Five Above (33 CEUs) Wisdom of The Dream (4 CEUs) Positive Psychology (6 CEUs) Pros and Cons of Positive Psychology (5 CEUs) The Fundamentals of Positive Psychology (7 CEUs) CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY (39 CEUs)

Dr. Kelly has authored or co-authored three books that expand upon American psychologist Silvan S. Tomkins’s multifaceted theory of human personality development. His current book The Upside of Shame: Therapeutic Interventions Using the Positive Aspects of a "Negative" Emotion (New York: Norton) was co-authored with psychologist Mary Lamia, Ph.D. Intended primarily for psychotherapists, this book presents the concept that shame has an evolved function of critically positive importance in personality development and in the understanding and treatment of personality disorders, in spite of that fact that it can also have seriously deleterious effects. His first book The Art of Intimacy and the Hidden Challenge of Shame introduced the same concept based on his work treating troubled couples. The utility of shame in the field of restorative practices was also highlighted in his book co-edited with Margaret Thorsborne The Psychology of Emotion in Restorative Practice: How Affect Script Psychology Explains How and Why Restorative Practice Work (London: Jessica Kingsley). #582 – Memoir of A Trance Therapist with Adam Crabtree
Adam Crabtree is a founding faculty member of the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy in Toronto, where he is a lecturer, seminar leader, psychotherapy group facilitator, and psychotherapy practice supervisor. Adam Crabtree's first book, published in 1985, is titled Multiple Man: Explorations in Possession and Multiple Personality. He has written books on hypnosis, trance states in everyday life, and dissociation, pathological and normal. He has published an annotated bibliography Animal Magnetism, Early Hypnotism, and Psychical Research from 1766 to 1920: An Annotated Bibliography (1988). He has written several books on the history of psychodynamic psychology in the West, most notably From Mesmer to Freud: Magnetic Sleep and the Roots of Psychological Healing (1993). He has written about the history of hypnosis and advocates a the redefinition and resituating of hypnosis, placing it in terms of the broader category of trance, particularly in his book Memoir of a Trance Therapist: Hypnosis and the Evocation of Human Potentials (2014). He is contributing author of a book on extraordinary rogue phenomena of human experience titled Irreducible Mind: Toward a Psychology for the 21st Century (2007), and associate editor of a study of the possible explanations for these phenomena called Beyond Physicalism: Toward Reconciliation of Science and Spirituality (2015). Both of these books grew out of the fifteen-year research project of the “survival seminar” of the Esalen Center for Theory and Research, of which he was a founding member. His latest book is Evolutionary Love and the Ravages of Greed (2017). It is concerned with an examination of the nature of love, both as an interpersonal and an evolutionary force in the world. He writes about two kinds of love at work in cosmic evolution: agape(benevolent and beneficent love) and eros (desire-love). He also examines the domination of greed in today’s tumultuous world as a psychosocial reality and sees it as the result of a defect in the practice of love. He also offers a proposal for a grass roots solution that involves widespread growth of the practice of agape in the human community Get A 10% discount on all my courses below through the Zur Institute using the discount code: DRDAVE88 Check out the following Psychology CE Courses based on listening to Shrink Rap Radio interviews, offered through Zur Institute: Jungian Psychotherapy Part 1 (6 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 2 (7 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 3 (7 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 4 (6 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Part 5 (7 CEUs) Jungian Psychotherapy Package of the Five Above (33 CEUs) Wisdom of The Dream (4 CEUs) Positive Psychology (6 CEUs) Pros and Cons of Positive Psychology (5 CEUs)

#580 – Remembering Zen Philosopher Alan Watts
Alan Watts, philosopher, author, and lecturer Alan Watts (1915–1973) popularized Zen Buddhism and other Eastern philosophies for the counterculture of the 1960s. Today, new generations are finding his writings and lectures online, while faithful followers worldwide continue to be enlightened by his teachings. The Collected Letters of Alan Watts reveals the remarkable arc of Watts’s colorful and controversial life, from his school days in England to his priesthood in the Anglican Church as chaplain of Northwestern University to his alternative lifestyle and experimentation with LSD in the heyday of the late sixties. His engaging letters cover a vast range of subject matter, with recipients ranging from High Church clergy to high priests of psychedelics, government officials, publishers, critics, family, and fans. They include C. G. Jung, Henry Miller, Gary Snyder, Aldous Huxley, Reinhold Niebuhr, Timothy Leary, Joseph Campbell, and James Hillman. Watts’s letters were curated by two of his daughters, Joan Watts and Anne Watts, who have added rich, behind-the-scenes biographical commentary. Joan Watts grew up in the United States and England attending private schools and then studied art at various institutions in the United States. Her art has won awards in juried shows and hangs in many private collections. In addition to her art career, she spent 25 years as a successful fund raiser in the nonprofit world. Joan lives in Livingston Montana with her husband, Johnny (Montana) Hale, a musician songwriter and retired motion picture technician. Most of her life decisions have been influenced in one way or another by her father, Alan Watts. Anne Watt’s philosophies were also strongly shaped by her experience as the daughter of Alan Watts. Ann is a certified hypnotherapist and an educator and counselor in the areas of human sexuality, sexual abuse, family stress, self-esteem, healing the inner child, and financial and aging issues. Since 1985, she has facilitated hundreds of workshops in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, England, and Germany with The Human Awareness Institute, work she is deeply passionate about since 2008. She lives in Santa Rosa, California. You can find her work online at www.annewatts.com. #569 Exploring Emotional Transformation Therapy with Steven Vazquez PhD
Steven R. Vazquez, Ph. D. is a licensed professional counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Texas. Dr. Vazquez is the founder of the new psychotherapy method, Emotional Transformation Therapy® (ETT®). Through this method he has innovated breakthroughs in the non-drug treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder, addictions, depression, anxiety disorders and couple therapy. He has developed methods for correcting sleep disorders. Dr. Vazquez has also developed breakthroughs in the treatment of chronic physical pain conditions such as low back pain, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia, tempero mandibular joint pain, Morton's neuroma, arthritis and pain from accidents and injuries. He has developed methods for treating religious and spiritual issues and a technique to facilitate states of extreme wellbeing. Dr. Vazquez is the author of two books, Emotional Transformation Therapy and Accelerated Ecological Psychotherapy as well as Spiritually Transformative Psychotherapy. He has written several professional articles for peer reviewed professional journals. His work has been cited in several books and articles. Dr. Vazquez has been in private practice for over thirty-eight years in the Texas. He has provided over forty presentations at professional conferences and conducted over a hundred professional trainings. Dr. Vazquez has presented his work in eight different countries and in most U. S. cities. His presentations usually include live demonstrations with volunteers. Dr. Vazquez has developed an innovative form of non-touch energy healing originating from his own spiritual awakening in 1984. He was selected as one of the three most advanced healers along with Barbara Brennen and John Pierokos to be subjects in a scientific study of healers. This study resulted in the published article The Anthropological and Scientific Case for Psychoenergetic Healing by Charles Zeiders in 2003. His healing work has been cited in the 1994 Time-Life book, Repair and Renewal. He has conducted numerous presentations on this method across the U. S. and in Europe. In addition, to the alleviation of numerous forms of emotional distress and physical pain, he was able to facilitate recovery of vision in 1988 with a woman who was blind from birth. This energetic method is based on a spiritual awakening, not a specific formula. It focuses on the facilitator's state of consciousness and less upon techniques. Dr. Vazquez has written one of only a very few articles concerning ethics in energy healing. This process combines psychological counseling techniques with energy healing. It is original but does overlap with some concepts from other energetic systems. He accepts people regardless of their religious or spiritual orientations and does not try to convince people to believe a certain way. Gerald (Jerry) Trumbule, B.S. Univ. of Md. 1965, M.S. Univ. of Pa., 1970, has been a neuropsychological researcher (Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and NASA, Univ. of Md.) and Assistant Professor of Psychology, Univ. of Toronto, 1970.
