Episode 280: The Mandalorian Footage, The Curse of La Llorona, Game of Thrones, Twilight Zone, One Cut of the Dead, Dark Side of the Ring, Little, Cuphead (Nintendo Switch),Child’s Play Trailer #2, Giant Little Ones
🎙 This week the Leftovers welcome back Neil Thollander to the show. This week in Good Pop Bad Pop we talk again about Black Summer on Netflix.  Jake talks about Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch.  Brian talks about a few movies: Giant Little Ones, Little and One Cut of the Dead 🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️  Brian also talks about 2 shows he’s watching: CBS All-Access’s Twilight Zone as well as Dark Side of the Ring on Viceland.  Jake and Brian discuss the long awaited Season 8 premiere of ⚔🛡Game of Thrones🛡⚔ and what we thought.  And we discuss 2 trailers this week: Hobbs & Shaw and Child’s Play🔪 In News we’re talking about Y: The Last Man troubles for the FX series, Showtime has cast it’s Master Chief for their Halo series and we now have some rumored details about Paramounts sequel for Coming To America 2. In Marvel News Kevin Feige talks Deadpool.  In DC News we talk about John Cena being eyes for The Suicide Squad and who he could play. Star Wars News is mostly news from The Mandalorian from Star Wars Celebration.  There were 2 scenes that were shown to audiences in attendance that haven’t been released online and we talk about the footage description. It’s always awkward ending trying to end these show descriptions.  Not really sure how to end them after 280 episodes which is super pathetic.  Hear me out here.  Most podcasts would end with something along the lines of “so pop in some headphones and give it a listen”.  I hate that kinda crap.  I’m not saying “don’t listen” but I’m not gonna enthusiastically say something so trite.  Some of you are saying “it shouldn’t be that hard to end these podcast descriptions” and some of you are saying “what the hell does trite mean?” And to those people I’ll say: trite /trīt/ adjective * (of a remark, opinion, or idea) overused and consequently of little import; lacking originality or freshness. “this point may now seem obvious and trite” SEE YOU NEXT WEEK FOR AVENGERS ENDGAME Share this:

Episode 278: Shazam! (SPOILERS) + Bonus Joker Trailer Talk + CinemaCon Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984 Footage
SHAZAM! ⚡ In this episode the Leftovers are joined by Rebekah Dahling from Number One Comic Books and Steve Miller from The Space Cowboy podcast to talk about Shazam! We rate and review the film as well as talk about what potential sequels could be in store. We also talk about the CinemaCon footage for Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984 and finish up by talking about the Joker movie trailer starring Joaquin Phoenix directed by Todd Phillips. David F. Sandberg (“Annabelle: Creation”) directs New Line Cinema’s “Shazam!,” the origin story that stars Zachary Levi (TV’s “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, and Asher Angel (TV’s “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson. Peter Safran (“Aquaman,” “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films) serves as the film’s producer. We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong). “Shazam!” also stars Jack Dylan Grazer (“IT”) as Billy’s best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast, Freddy, and Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond”) as the Wizard. The cast also includes Faithe Herman (TV’s “This is Us”), Grace Fulton (“Annabelle: Creation”), Ian Chen (TV’s “Fresh Off the Boat”), Jovan Armand (TV’s “Hawaii Five-0”), Marta Milans (TV’s “Killer Women”) and Cooper Andrews (TV’s “The Walking Dead”). Firmly set in the DC universe but with his own distinctly fun, family-centric tone, the screenplay is by Henry Gayden, story by Gayden and Darren Lemke, based on characters from DC. Shazam was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck. Jeffrey Chernov, Christopher Godsick, Geoff Johns, Walter Hamada, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Richard Brener and Dave Neustadter serve as executive producers. Share this:

In this bonus episode of Pop Culture Leftovers Rebekah and Melissa interview Shelbi Webb, one of the youngest published female comic book authors in the world. Shelbi Webb is 13-years-old and resides in a small Utah community. She has always loved art and finding ways to be creative. Shelbi started writing for the local county paper in 2016 as a junior reporter attending Comic Conventions. Though she is still a child, Shelbi has personal experience with bullying and suicide of close acquaintances. Because of this, Shelbi wanted to make a difference and help young adolescents struggling with similar challenges. The antagonists in the comic are personifications of the problems facing teens today. Sugar Glider’s most important power is an enlarged empathy. Instead of fighting the antagonists, she helps them. Mental Health is a big part of the comic and the importance of counseling is addressed and used to assist the struggling adolescents. Shelbi launched Sugar Glider in 2018 and has been a guest at several comic conventions in the Western US and featured in local and national news stories.  She is also an ambassador for two non-profit organizations; one focuses on building up young women to be tomorrow’s leaders and another on loving everyone with an anti-bullying message. Shelbi continues to travel the country spreading her very important message of love and acceptance. Shelbi is the subject of a pilot episode for BYU TV as a documentary of amazing things kids are doing around the world. She has produced a “Comic with a Cause”…Sugar Glider.
