This had the potential to be a great podcast. Dr Phil keeps going over the same information repeatedly and driving home his opinion of the characters in the story. It gets old and I found myself not caring what the outcome was because I’d have to listen to him do it more in order to find out.
He just continues to reiterate the same information in all of the episodes. Both of the seasons could EASILY be condensed into one, maybe two, episodes.
Really good! Both podcasts are very interesting. Makes me miss the old Dr Phil shows.
Update. The murder one is boring. Drags on, repeats info, no new details....yawn.
I love that Dr.Phil is so detailed and actually has the sources to look into the evidence. I also love that there is so much information provided, so you’re not left confused!! I’m always waiting for the next episode!
Analysis of a Murder
Too hard to understand the words. It’s like y’all are on speed. Can I slow it down? No option for that!
I thought this would be good. I’m disappointed
Bizzare and Entertaining
This is the type of forensic and psychological analysis that I want from Dr. Phil. These stories are astounding and frankly unbelievable. Dr. Phil does a good job with walking us through the case step by step putting the pieces together. He doesn't just arrive at conclusions; he educates you on the possibilities that could lead a person to their current situation.
Love the idea; it's not well executed
I concur with reviews that Dr Phil repeats himself. Over and over again. You feel like you might be a psychic, perfectly predicting what he's going to say next. But you're no medium. You've just heard him say it before, just somewhat differently. And it drives you crazy because it's the same content and you don't know if you're accidentally listening to an old episode or if you're nuts. His analysis is great, he just needs to quit repeating himself!
Much more in depth than expected
I didn’t think I was going to like this podcast because I have never watched the Dr Phil TV show, and what little I had heard about it made me think that I would not enjoy watching it. I only decided to check the podcast out because I’ve been so interested in the Gypsy Rose story, recently, and then I saw he was moving in to the Rebecca Zahaou case, which I’ve also been interested in for years.
I’m very glad that I decided to listen. I have been very pleasantly surprised to find that he gets into many interesting details that I have not heard or read anywhere else. He also discusses psychological aspects of the situations, plays actual audio and points out details, and explains police and court procedural idiosyncrasies which makes some of the things that never made sense when reading the news articles, seem much more understandable.
He keeps the story at the center and doesn’t let us lose track of the fact that everyone involved in these terrible circumstances were/are all real people with real emotions. There is also a tight production team behind this, with musical cues and good sound quality. To those complaining about advertising, he only includes one short set of several ads, at the beginning, and a 30 second spot at the end. It is far less advertising than I have skipped past on many other very popular shows. It doesn’t bother me.
My only wish, for this show, is when replaying audio from 911 calls, please bring the sound up to the same volume as the rest of the narration, because otherwise I find myself cranking up the volume to make out what is said, and then having it too loud when they go back to Dr Phil talking.
Just too repetitive.
It’s hard to listen to. Dr. Phil just goes on and on over the same material. You keep waiting for it to end...and it doesn’t.
There’s nothing to keep you interested.

I love the way Dr. Phil analyzes a crime. His voice is familiar and carries great credibility with me. Simply a smart “real” guy with the real world experience to take a complex crime and unpack it in a way that helps the listener join him as if they are an active partner in his investigation. Could listen to him all day.
Rebecca was young and not a mom. The 6 year old was entitled and spoiled. She is an ethnicity which wouldn’t approve of this or be patient with this. He pushed her buttons this particular day and she caused his death.
She ended up committing suicide to take the focus off of her - the sister was hounding her because nothing made sense.
Also to save face with her family and reputation as Jonah said.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED
Dr. Phil let me ask a question that nobody seems to be asking, and I have watched many many shows about this case. I think you will appreciate this a lot more then the average person. Not to mention the fact that you have a superior intellect with regards to forensic psychology and your unbelievable knowledge of human psychology. So here’s the question, which I believe is the most important piece of evidence that points to what I believe, why would someone who just committed murder write on the closet door “ she saved him, can you save her “. I’m not a psychologist, but if we go with the theory that someone who just committed a spur of the moment murder, which all the experts that I have read or watched on all these shows agree that that’s what happened. So here’s this person who just killed someone, and obviously decided to make this look like a suicide, and as we know they went through a lot of trouble to accomplish this as the evidence shows. So here’s this person who actually did a pretty good job of making it look like a suicide, as we can see because look at the debate that still rages on, and they write on the door “ she saved him, can you save her “? That person could not have written anything worse to make it look like a suicide. It’s the one piece of evidence that definitively points to a murder as you described in your podcast. I don’t care how panicked, how stunted their mental ability, or crazed that person was, they wrote the one thing that points, with out a shadow of doubt, to a murder. Like I said that person did a great job of making it look like a suicide, and he doesn’t write on the door “ I’m sorry, life isn’t worth living, I can’t live anymore”. It doesn’t make sense as any good homicide detective like Lou Smith would say. The people that say it was murder some evidence fits that theory some of it doesn’t. The people that say it was suicide some of the evidence fits that theory and some of it doesn’t. If you look at it through the theory that she committed suicide and staged it to look like something else all the evidence fits. I believe she did this because, as we know from family statements that Rebecca and especially her family are very religious and as her sister said at a press conference to make the point that this was murder Rebecca would have never put her family through that. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.
Salacious stories, told Phil’s oddly condescending tone
I never watched Dr. Phil so this is my first real exposure to his style. Gypsy Rose’s episodes spared no sensational detail and Dr. Phil spun every one of those details out with his far reaching analysis and obvious biases. Sprinkled amongst all this tabloid style shameless exploitation disguised as insightful evaluation Phil shills his wife’s skin care products and his buddy’s baby basket thing.
This is compelling....
Dr Phil presents a balanced view of events. It gives me hope for the families of crime who cannot find answers through a traditional police investigation. The lack of ANY DNA other than the victim's is very troubling. I'm still puzzled by suicide being named as the cause of death. Shame is such a strong component of depression so such an elaborate suicide with nudity defies credulity in my view.
Recap Recap Recap
So much time is spent recapping what happened in the previous episodes. Can the writers and producers keep in mind that the listener has already heard the other episodes... no one is just going to start with episode 3...
Too much analyzing
I enjoy Dr. Phil but his podcast seems to drone on and on. He analyzes the subject matter to the point of overkill. He also advertises his wife’s products which seems a bit biased.
Too many ads.
I’m seriously perplexed “Why” the police would consider this a suicide based on the the fact of the way she was tried up, she’s naked, most people don’t take the time to write angry messages on doors, when there depressed about their situation. And why that message?
The paint on her hand could have been staged or she used the paint on a projected she’d been doing . if the black paint was hers wouldn’t her finger prints be on the tube? Did they check her for rape? She was naked! I’m not buying Suicide either , there are to many unanswered question.

I love your podcast and I think it’s hilarious the way you say your “wh”’s 🤣
Best podcast ever!!
bestest rater eva
Dr. Phil should have a murder show too! The way he narrates the situation while also giving his thoughts makes you feel like you are really there. Also I think the boyfriend killed her due to blaming her for the child’s death

Thank you Dr. Phil! This is one of the weirdest mysteries ever. And the news kind of dropped it. Right before 9/11 24 hour cable news was all Chandra Levy. But they drop this? How on earth did Rebecca pull off the elaborate knots on her wrists! It’s just crazy. Thank you for this!!!
I enjoy Dr Phil but.....
Good but too many ads. In the middle of the podcast he begins to advertise his wife’s products and other random thing..
My take on Mansion murder
The more I listen to this stories’ details, the more I believe the poor girl was severely tortured then lynched over that balcony. No self-respecting female would ever intentionally let her body be found completely naked.
I am grateful for Dr Phil. He is the soothing voice of reason in a chaotic world. His narrative and delivery style is down to Earth, clear minded and detail oriented. A tight, collective team effort is evident with each podcast/analysis. Thank You!
this is information useful in “understanding” many aspects of crime and evil.
Interesting, but super repetitive
Starts off strong, but lingers. By the 5th episode there is hardly any new information. The first and third episodes are the best. The last 15 minutes of the fifth button things up.
My mom got me into listening to this podcast, when she was listening to the episodes about Gypsy Rose. And the detail Dr.Phil goes into is amazing. Been listening to this the whole time I’m at work and made it to episode 5 on Gypsy Rose. I’m not a huge Dr.Phil fan, but I’m definitely going to listen to more episodes he comes out with. And I highly recommend it.
Best of Both
I love Dr Phil, I love true crime and I love podcasts.
I keep checking my phone to see if the next episode is out yet!!!!!
This was a murder
This is such a sad story. I sincerely hope this case is reopened and investigated properly. I cannot believe anyone would go to such great lengths to kill themselves. Her murderer needs to be brought to justice!
Love love love this podcast.
Where is S2 E2?
Thrilled about this!!
I really enjoyed listening to the Gypsy stories and now another one about Rebecca, such horrible tragedies but the podcast is wonderful... can’t get enough!!! Keep it up Dr.Phil, love you and Robin!!
Dr. Phill is the best story teller! I love how he explains what he thinks is happening psychologically. He also has the best voice
He “things” he is.
Are you a forensic physchlogist? Just wondering.
A 2 in 1
I love true crime and Dr. Phil so I am in love with this podcast!
He pretends like he actually has experience with this line of work. It is hilarious to hear how smart he things he is and then promote his wife’s products.
Yes yes yes! I recommend this podcast to EVERYONE at work!
I can not believe as someone who has worked with people grieving and with mental illness for years that you would state in your podcast that if someone dies by suicide it is the fault of the family for not being a “good enough father, mother, son, daughter, etc.” How DARE you!!!! This among others must be one of the reasons you are no longer licensed. I’ve worked so hard with my own therapist to accept that my mom was sick and her leaving me was a result of her illness not a result of anything I did. She tried EVERYTHING for 24 years to get better and in the end, the illness one. I am truly appalled by your statements. I listened to the entire Gypsy Rose Podcast and will no longer be listening to you.
Dr. Phil was able to break down the story in a way, so as to enable all of his listeners to full understand and Empathize with the accused.
I haven’t listened to the Gypsy Rose episodes as of yet. I just knew too much about the case already, but I loved the second case. Dr. Phil has a great way of explaining things especially as someone with past trial experience. Don’t know why it took him this long to start podcasting.
FILL IN THESE BLANKS
8ry old Gabriel Fernandez
WHY ISN’T 8yr OLD GABRIEL FERNANDEZ YOUR “POSTER BOY FOR CHILD ABUSE”. WHY IS MOST OF THIS CASE HIDDEN OR REPLACED WITH WORDS OF “TOO GRAPHIC FOR EYES & EARS”?
OVER 60 REPORTS MADE TO L.A. COUNTY’S CPS AND STILL , 8yr OLD GABRIEL FERNANDEZ CONTINUED TO GET TORTURED AND BEATEN TO DEATH. I CANT PUT ANY WORDS TOGETHER THAT WOULD OVER EXAGGERATE THE DETAILS. IF THIS LITTLE BOY WAS FORCED TO ENDURE EVERYTHING HE WENT THROUGH WHILE FRIENDS, FAMILY, TEACHERS, PRINCIPAL, COUNSELORS, ETC, THEN THE WORLD SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE, LOOK, HEAR, UNTIL THEY RECOGNIZE THE RED FLAGS & UNDERSTAND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES AS MANDATED REPORTERS. Who knows, Once we all become Aware of the truth, These kids might start being saved?
He sure can drag out a story
Dr. Phil! I love you man and I know you’re super busy but let’s get this thing going already! You dragged us though what, 5? 6? episodes that could’ve easily been condensed into 3.
I’m someone who has never really viewed Dr. Phil’s televised program but I must say, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed his podcast thus far. The Gypsy Rose case is fascinating on its on, however, Dr. Phil’s analysis and 1 on 1 interview with Gypsy, was quite informative. A new episode literally just dropped and I’m listening as soon as I finish my review. I see it has a 4 star rating but I totally disagree. Dr. Phil is very well spoken and he has expertise in understanding and diagnosing people. Very good podcast if you’re into trying to identify and get to the root of the “why.”
I was really excited to dive deeper into the Gypsy Rose story but could not stand listening to this podcast. Dr. Phil is over dramatic, repetitive and annoying. He mostly spouts his opinions rather than give any real psychological insight. There are some nuggets of interesting new information but they’re buried in a sea of annoying unnecessary comments from Dr. Phil. Don’t waste your time.
Dr. Phil lays the story out in great detail. It’s such a sad story.
I really liked this series. It taught me a lot about the case I didn’t know. I also REALLY liked that you got to interview her and learn about her future plans. I personally feel bad for gypsy. I have a family friend that I’ve been keeping a close eye because of this case. Thank you for all the insight
The main point here is Gypsy should not be in prison for this. It makes me wonder if her lawyers even tried to present all of the facts of her abuse during her trial? I think a better lawyer could have gotten her in a mental health treatment facility instead of prison. I think this abuse story is at the same severity as the Turpins. I signed the petition to release her immediately after hearing this. I will also send a letter to the judge on her behalf. She deserves to move on in a normal and healthy way.
I like hearing the breakdown and insights and opinions of Dr.Phil but it was SOOO repetitive. Each episode he basically told you everything in all of the previous episodes, multiple times
Boring. Repetitive. She was NOT raped.
Dr. Phil you are beating this story to death. Literally. This chick is cold, manipulative and straight up and psycho.
Dr Phil needs to tighten it up!
First and second episode were good, but then it faded away.
