273: Why I Shouldn't Have Been Afraid to Become a Mom
I was afraid to have a baby. I wasn’t a maternal woman, I loved work so much, I enjoyed every ounce of freedom, I wanted Drew to myself, I didn’t want to “ruin” my body and I required 10 hours of sleep a night... There were so many reasons why I worried about becoming a mom and yet this yearning came on, 5 years into marriage after we vowed we’d never have kids. That was the start of a caption I shared just one month into motherhood. It’s how I felt before I knew how I would morph into a new version of myself, one I never imagined myself becoming. Maybe it’s because we waited three long years or we prepared for the worst. I realized those fears were taking up space that could have been filled with dreams. Being a mom is the BEST thing I’ve ever done and it’s stretched me in new ways. With this episode, I want to speak to the women who want to become a mom but feel fear. My fear ran deep, too. Today I’m sharing how motherhood has changed both me and my business, and what I’ve learned that told me I never had anything to be afraid of at all. 272: How Quitting and Failing Lead to a Fashion Empire
I can picture you sitting there at your desk, glancing around those stark office walls, the ping of your email inbox echoing in your ears, and you’re thinking: There’s more for me than this. Jane Lu was an accountant, she had a stable job in the corporate world, but after starting a business on the side she became so distracted that her work suffered. So she quit. And she didn’t tell anyone. And then her business failed. Now what? No job, no promise of finding another one, and no business. But now Jane is the founder of Showpo and sitting on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, on track for $200 million in sales. There’s so much between point A and point B… Actually, Jane’s story is more of a point A to point XYZ. Jane is funny and unfiltered, and she’s sharing her story that all started with a decision to quit. Is blogging dead? A woman in my mastermind asked me the question at my mastermind retreat last fall. It wasn’t the first time, and over the years I tend to hear this question more and more. As a girl who started this entire business simply by launching a free Wordpress blog over eight years ago, it’s safe to say that I’m kind of hooked on blogging, and I get a little defensive over it because it was my baby for all of these years. Have you questioned if blogging is even relevant anymore? Or are you just starting a business and wondering if starting a blog is where your focus should be? You’re not alone in wondering. Today I am sharing why blogging can have a place in your business and why it should be a priority. I’ll walk you through how to get started, how to actually make money blogging, and what goes into writing the perfect blog post that will benefit your business for years to come. Some days you feel totally in your groove, creating absolute magic and checking things off your Big Three to-do list without hesitation. Other days you move slower and can’t seem to get out of your own way, no matter what tasks are piling up on your plate, and your inner mean girl makes you feel totally awful about it, too. What if you could predict those days? What if you could pinpoint when you’d be in the best mental state to work creatively or when you’ll be totally in the zone, sharp, and focused? Would you even believe me if I told you… You can? Today’s guest, Claire Baker, is a life coach… More specifically, a PERIOD coach. Claire teaches women how to live in sync with their menstrual cycle. She’ll walk us through a broader understanding of the seasons of our cycle, and then we’ll do a deep dive into working with these seasons and understanding how they impact our every day. I could’ve talked to Claire all. day. long. If you’re ready to understand your body even better, don’t wait to tune into this episode. The one change I made that lead to major Instagram growth? Posting photos of ME. And ever since I started sharing more of ME on my Instagram feed, I’m asked who takes my photos. People wonder if I hire a photographer or go to a fancy studio every time I need a new shot for my feed. I don’t and you don’t have to either. All you need is this episode and the willingness to try something that might feel a little uncomfortable at first. I’m a photographer, and I know how to get the best shots of other people, but I’ve also adapted some of those same techniques to take photos of myself, and not just an iPhone selfie as arms-length away. And because you might be looking for advice on posing and feeling natural when someone else is taking a photo of you, I'm serving up some of my favorite tips for when you DO hire a photographer to get the shot (or bribe your husband or partner to do the job!) These are my tips to feel confident taking photos of yourself and getting shots you can’t wait to share in your feed. So much has changed in my world since the last Ask Jenna and Drew Anything. We recorded it waaay back before Conley was born, and before we knew just how much that sweet little baby girl would shift everything we thought we knew about ourselves, about my business, and about how we do life together. We’ve talked about everything from our first kiss to how we balance our roles as husband and wife on the show, but now Drew and I are in a new season with our daughter as a centerpiece of our lives, and I wanted to share how we’re feeling and what we’ve learned since day one of parenthood. We’re answering your questions from Instagram and Facebook, and in true Kutcher form, we’re not holding back on this. Becoming an entrepreneur has you writing a lot these days: Captions, content for your website, messages in emails… It’s a TON of work, and you don’t love being a copywriter. I get it. They make you easy to relate to, connect with, and understand on a deeper level, and they hold your brand together with a cohesive story across several platforms. See, our businesses aren't just the things we sell to other people. The WORDS that lift up our businesses shed light on more than just what we're selling. 266: A Vulnerable Discussion on Privilege with Miss USA 2018
I strive every day to check my privilege. I want to DO BETTER as a white woman to celebrate the diversity in this community, and recognize where I can be a positive force for inclusion and representation of all of the wonderful ways we are all different. I’m learning how to better speak about the tough topics. I’ve been SCARED to say the wrong things, so I’ve said nothing at all. But I know that there’s always room for growth and progress through having these tough conversations. In this episode, I’m having a tough conversation. When I first spoke to Sarah Rose Summers, she was nearly halfway through her term as Miss USA 2018 and preparing for the Miss Universe competition in Thailand. I loved our conversation, but it never made it to air. You might remember the headlines that came out of the competition, the story about Miss USA and the comments she made about another contestant. We held off on airing her original episode, because my team and I knew we had an important responsibility and opportunity to face a tough topic head on and have a larger conversation about what happened and what we’ve all learned. I am thrilled to welcome Sarah Rose Summers to Goal Digger today. Yes, we are two white women, stepping up to the mics to talk about diversity, race, and inclusion. I want to have a real, honest conversation that gets us all thinking of ways to do better, grow, be challenged, and show up after we’ve messed up. 265: This ONE Method Could Transform Your Email List
Pick a lane, commit to it and follow through. That’s what I tell my students, because it’s true, consistency is one of the biggest factors of success. So, are you consistent with your email marketing? This is one of the KEY areas you need to dial it in. It’s the most reliable way to reach your audience. It should be on your short list of places you’re going to show up consistently. Maybe you’ve listened to my advice and started a list but you’re struggling with the consistency part. Or maybe it’s been at the bottom of your to-do list for the last two years, or maybe you’re just not sure you’re doing it right… If you’re panicking, take a deep breath. I’ve got you -- today is a training in email lists, how to nurture your peeps, and serving your audience well and all you’ve gotta do is listen. Today’s guest, Sazan Hendrix grew up the daughter of immigrant Middle Eastern parents. Her family valued hard work, but a career in the public spotlight was not encouraged. She faced cultural opposition and yet she pushed through to find her voice and identity, inspiring women across the globe to do the same. Sazan’s success is undeniable, right? A million followers, sold out products, a top-rated podcast. But she reached a point where the world saw her as one thing, and she felt totally out of alignment with that image. I loved hearing about Sazan’s life before she grew her business, and the changes she made when her sweet baby entered this world, so she could show up in a way that was totally true to who she is now. If you’ve ever felt conflicted and out of sync with the person you are inside and the one showing up in your squares on social media, this is your episode. 262: Goal Digger Coaching: How to Start and Grow a Podcast
Podcasting? There’s more to it than you’d think. I’m asked all the time: What do I need to start a podcast? What do you use to record? How do I get sponsors and make money? Should I outsource any step of the process? When I started the Goal Digger Podcast, I was balancing my computer on my lap in the car so the dogs wouldn’t bark and mess up the recording. Now? Well, there’s still no fancy studio... all of this happens from a spare closet at my house, with a simple mic setup, some Internet magic, and a whole lot of help from my team. I’ve learned so much from day one of starting a podcast. 18 million downloads later, my team and I have our podcast system down to a science that allows us to release FREE quality content two times a week just for you. In this episode, I’m answering those questions and more with a special guest, Tori Maloney. 260: The Best Guide to Get Out of Debt and Actually Save
There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who open their bank app on their phone without a single worry or anxiety, and those two squirm and cringe just thinking about it, or maybe even pretend the app isn’t there. Nearly 1 in 3 women in our country are discouraged about their finances with over 68% feeling overwhelmed by debt. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I am thrilled to welcome Tiffany Aliche, AKA The Budgetnista, to the podcast. We’re talking about the types of debt, how to get out of it from ANY starting point, when to invest in your business, and simple strategies to contribute to your savings that won’t leave you feeling cash strapped at the end of the month. SE-Oh no, what does it all mean? Search Engine Optimization, the beast we all have to tame if we want our content to get seen on the world wide web. And best case scenario our content isn’t only SEEN, but it’s ranked high up on that Google results page and gets those coveted clicks. I’ve covered SEO on the show before but I’m seeing the question pop up more and more ‘cause it’s just one of those things that continues to challenge us, confuse us, and keep us from even starting. The Google algorithm judges our pages with over 200 different criteria -- Trying to master them all would be a full time job, and you’ve got bigger things to do. So what will actually move the needle? How can you rank ahead of your competitors? What’s worth the fuss? It’s all in this episode. 258: How to Start Your Influencer Business without 10K
You don’t need 10K to start your business as an influencer. What do you need? Today’s episode. Today’s guest, Ali Grant, knows influencers. She launched her business as one of the first agencies working on influencer outreach and collaboration. I’m asking her your biggest questions: How many followers do I need to start making money? What are the secrets to NAILING a brand pitch? And really, how much do influencers actually make per post? Remember when “Influencers” weren’t even a thing? Like when advertising on the internet was mainly in the form of pop up ads and spam emails? I can’t say I miss those days -- I love the Influencer Marketing world we live in today. You probably know that I’m an influencer and I make money from sponsored posts, but the reality is if you have ONE follower you are an influencer. Getting paid to post? With the right strategy, I know you can do it. I don’t have time. My dream is too big. Where do I even start? Our big dreams can take a backseat to everyday life. It’s so easy to push them away, fire off every excuse for not leaning into our biggest goals, and ignore the little pull they have on our hearts. I wholeheartedly believe that these big ideas that both excite and frighten us are the only things worth pursuing at all. Let me warn you from the beginning that this is not going to be an episode on general goal setting or how to be more productive and stick to your goals. This episode is about figuring out that one thing you should be doing and then reverse engineering your way to achieve the result you want. Work smarter, not harder. How many times have you heard that in your life? That’s the goal, but it’s not always the starting point. It can take years to get your business to a place where it’s running itself, you’re making money while you sleep, and you’re not burning the midnight oil every. single. night. I love sharing my own strategies on this show for efficient workflows and staying productive, but today with my guest, we’re looking at the science and data behind it all. What are the proven methods to being more productive while actually doing less? And get this… the productivity hack relating to our menstrual cycle that actually BLEW MY MIND. Kate Northrup teaches data-driven and soul-driven time and energy management practices that result in saving time, making more money, and experiencing less stress. Check, check and check, right? 253: If I Had $5,000 to Launch My Biz Here's What I'd Do
A few weeks ago, I was standing on a balcony in Puerto Rico… The sun was setting, I was staring down at the beach, holding a glass of champagne and I had a moment. One of those moments when time freezes and you see this sort of highlight reel of a part of your life. For me, it was this flashback to when I started this whole thing and here I was in this reality that was a total *pinch me* moment. I came back to earth when a photographer walked up to me and I asked him what lens he was shooting on. Our conversation took off and he asked me ONE question that inspired this whole episode. He said, “If you had $5,000 and had to start all over again, where would you spend it and what would you do?” Wow. 251: 5 Things You Didn't Know About My Early Entrepreneur Days
Maybe you’re sitting in our soul-crushing job thinking, “Life has more for me.” That was me in the early days. The windowless corporate office days. The early entrepreneur days asking myself if I could really make it happen. You don’t know much about how I really got my start or what those early days looked like for me… You’ve heard the story about my $300 Craigslist camera but I want to dive into my reality as I took a leap into the world of entrepreneurship. Maybe, just maybe you’re sitting where I was those years ago, wanting more but not even sure what “more” could look like or if you could make it happen. I’m on a total high right now. It’s how I always feel after a call with my business coach. I’ve taken courses and joined masterminds and chosen my mentors carefully. Did you know every coach I’ve ever hired has been led by a male? Enter: Dean Graziosi. I saw Dean speak about a year ago, and even though he’s been in this game for a few decades, he still lights up when he talks about what he does. I never stop learning or investing in my development and these calls keep me moving forward. I always record our calls (because I seriously cannot scribble notes fast enough!) so I’m peeling back the curtain big time and letting you listen into a session so you can hear what it’s like to be coached and what I am asking. It’s kind of like the old-school landline days when you could pick up the phone and listen to your parents talk from the other room… Except it’s an unscripted, raw, and unedited call with the business coach that always leaves me fired up and focused. 248: Personal Brand vs. Private Life: Let's Discuss
Boundaries. Is there such a thing? As we’re building our businesses, creating our personal brands, and sharing the good, bad, and *real* moments on social media, where is the line between our public and private lives anymore? We scrapped the interview questions for an honest conversation with our guest today, Kate Arends. She created the lifestyle brand Wit & Delight and what started as a personal project to get to know herself became a resource for her 3.3 million followers to feel less alone in the ups and downs of their journey through life. She shares food, design, and travel, and publishes deeply personal essays to explore her journey through divorce, mental illness, and an undiagnosed learning disability. Through it all, Kate expertly crafted a deeply personal brand with a focus on her passions. I ask her about the whole process, how she creates boundaries while maintaining a brand that is so personal, and what she would do if she started over today. 247: How to Pivot When You're No Longer Passionate
A $300 Craigslist camera launched my photography career and turned into all of this. Stop me if you’ve heard this one… I’ve told it a million times because it’s a reminder of how I got this whole thing going. When I speak to entrepreneurs, many aren’t sure they want to be doing what they are currently doing ten years from now. I dare you to post a video to your Instagram Stories right now. Show up, wherever and however you are, and talk to your audience. Is your heart nervously racing at the thought? I’m with you… Video is scary! We might feel comfortable posting a selfie after some editing and applying our favorite filters and presets but video? So much more difficult to SHOW UP in that way. But video is important. We’re getting clear signs every day that if we’re not using video for our businesses, we better start. Today’s guest, Sunny Lenarduzzi has nearly a decade of experience in creating thriving brand strategies using social media and video marketing. When I wanted to dig deeper into the struggle of feeling comfortable on camera (for selfish reasons, really, I could use some help in this area) I knew Sunny would be the best guest to offer actionable tips to make us ALL want to show up on video for our businesses. Does it feel corny to say Lights, Camera, Action? I already said it anyway… So here we go! We even have a challenge for you! You in? Have 90 minutes of time today to devote to your dreams? What if one tiny act of kindness could change a life? Oh Instagram, the app we are all trying to maneuver with grace and ease but behind the scenes we’re pulling out our hair, spending way too much time Googling things, and agonizing behind every image and caption -- and don’t even get me started about things like hashtags and IG stories, am I right? As someone who has educated thousands of people on how to use the app better, I wanted to take a little time to tell ya the 3 trends that NEED to stop -- like yesterday -- because they are hurting you and not helping you on the platform. This isn’t an episode telling you to do MORE. Instead, it’s shedding a light on some frightening trends that are robbing you seeing results on Instagram. Are you ready? Decisions, decisions. Are you good at making them or do decisions fill you with fear and doubt? I haven’t always been super decisive, in fact, in the past I would’ve categorized myself as a wishy-washy people pleaser. Can you relate with that? You want to make everyone happy so you let others make decisions for you, like where to eat for dinner or what movie to watch. Now Drew would probably argue that I’m a little TOO decisive, but I know what I want and now I don’t really waiver or question my decision. I want to walk you through how I became a better decision maker, the things I ask myself when making big decisions, and how you can implement a few simple steps to become better at making decisions and ditch the doubt that sometimes comes with them. This one skill has saved me hours of deliberation and seasons of questioning, and it’s given me the clarity to say my best YESes! 237: The Personality Test We're Obsessed With (Enneagram)
I’m a Type 3: The Achiever. If you’ve taken this personality assessment my team cannot live without, you know exactly what I’m talking about. What is it? The enneagram! The enneagram assesses you as one of 9 types. Each of these types have a unique set of personality traits, strengths, and weaknesses and it is INSANELY accurate. My sister made my entire family take it last January, and the takeaways *actually* stuck with me throughout the year. I’m sharing how the enneagram has set me up for success in business, exposed weaknesses, how Drew and I have used it to grow in our marriage, how it clarified a lot of dynamics in our family, and ultimately how you can find out your enneagram assessment and use it to transform your life. 236: The Power of Owning Your Story to Make a Difference
Authenticity is more than posting the unedited, unfiltered photos on our feed. Today’s guest is a self-proclaimed authenticity advocate who believes sharing her truth, even the talking about the tough stuff out loud, can help other women feel like they aren’t alone. Sarah Herron was the first contestant on ABC’s The Bachelor with a physical disability, and although it didn’t end in her winning the final rose, she turned the sometimes tumultuous Bachelor experience into a new positive life purpose. Sarah was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome, but it hasn’t stopped her from climbing mountains, skiing double black diamonds and even searching for love on television. This chat gets real and raw about her time on the show and how it was a catalyst for starting her nonprofit. This girl is THE example of finding positivity and purpose in challenging times. I want to be super honest with you. My success changed my world. Most women say they are equally afraid of success as they are afraid of failing… That says a lot. I want to preface the whole thing to say that I am so, so grateful for every ounce of success that has come my way, but my life has changed so much since I left the corporate world and started my own business back in 2012. You ask about this a lot and I think it’s worth devoting an episode that’s real and vulnerable about my personal experience of growing a large brand, building a multimillion dollar company, and how it’s changed things for me, specifically how it’s affected my relationships. I hope you’ll sprinkle some grace over everything I’m about to say, and know that I’m showing up to tackle something that I’ve been personally struggling with in hopes that it will help you to understand what success can REALLY look like behind the scenes. 231: How to Get People on Board With Your Business
So you want to start a business but your husband isn’t on board. It can be difficult to be a woman striving for more in her career: It goes against traditional gender roles, people can question your priorities, and it’s easy to feel like a workaholic compared to your peers… Not having that support, or even having resistance from your closest family and friends, presents a whole new hurdle to clear. So how do you do it? How do you navigate your relationships and get your husband, partner, BFF, or family on board with your big idea? 230: The Truth About Therapy (And If It's Right For You)
It’s time to talk about mental health and normalize therapy. Today’s guest, Elyse Snipes, is a marriage and family therapist skilled at bringing practical solutions to everyday problems with a little creative magic and a whole lot of truth. She works with her patients to unlock their limiting beliefs and build a healthier narrative that makes room for healing, connection, and personal freedom… And she does it all from her restored 1953 vintage trailer parked on the beach. I invited Elyse on the show because as entrepreneurs, we’re welcoming a bonus layer of expectation, stress, anxiety, and decision-making into our lives, and in order to be successful in our businesses, and our personal lives, we need tools to manage these often challenging hurdles. I love Elyse’s mission to normalize therapy, and do it a little different than I’ve ever seen before. 228: Become an Instagram Influencer with These Tips (Puno)
Fact or fiction: Having tons of followers is the only way to get more partnership possibilities, more business opportunities, and by extension, more money. That’s totally FICTION. In the social media world of buying followers and the dreaded follow-unfollow game, the quality of your engagement with your audience is way more valuable than getting that ‘K’ next to your follower count. Micro-influencers are crushing the game and building dedicated, engaged followings that brands are leaning into and wanting to target. Puno is a digital entrepreneur and web designer. She founded @ilovecreatives, a platform for creatives to connect and she co-created PeopleMap.co, an Instagram marketing tool where you can strategically find, grow, and track your community. She’s also a YouTuber and takes the most epic photos with her cat. 225: Answered: Is It Better To Be An Introvert or Extrovert
Loner. Hermit. Recluse. Antisocial. If you search introvert in a thesaurus you’ll find some of these words. Hermit wasn’t in there, but my mom called me that once, so there’s that. But look mom! Introverts can make friends and build big businesses, too! Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, being an entrepreneur can teach you a LOT about yourself, your leadership style, and help you to hone in on your skills… But entrepreneurship also has a tendency to point out the areas where you don’t quite shine. Is it better to be introverted and extroverted as an entrepreneur? Today I’m going to teach you how to maximize whichever one you are to rock your business! I’ll also break down how I feel like my journey in entrepreneurship has changed me and taken me from being an extremely extroverted girl to someone who is definitely and entirely introverted. PLEASE READ: After publishing this episode it was brought to our attention that there is a great deal of controversy and damaging claims surrounding the company featured in this interview, LuLaRoe. LuLaRoe is currently under investigation and facing multiple lawsuits. Our intent on this show was to shed light on a different type of business model and how to successfully approach marketing in this space. While we support the actionable tips shared by our guest and believe they can be valuable for our audience, we do not support LuLaRoe. We hope our listener's takeaways are not focused on the company featured but focused on: Knowing your “why” behind anything that you do and letting it shine in all you share. How to stand out among the others selling your same product or within your industry. Researching different opportunities that can help you spend more time with your family and loved ones. Approaching relationships not with the sale in mind but in truly being able to connect with other human beings on a heart level. Using your business as a means to serve others needs and not a place to constantly sell. Preserving relationships by being sincere with every interaction. The importance of creating a personal experience for your customers versus creating mass appeal. As always, we recommend researching business opportunities before entering them. We are privileged to serve the Goal Digger audience each week with inspiring stories and know the platform we have built comes with enormous responsibility. I was hesitant to record this show because our own financial situation looks a lot different than others… But when I shared the fact that we are entirely debt free -- we’re talking no student loans, no mortgage, no car payments, plus we bought two Hawaiian condos -- I got a ton of requests and questions about how we did it, how we planned for it, and my tips to reduce the debt you have! It didn’t happen by chance. We worked hard to reach our debt-free goal, and I learned so much in the process that I want to share with you. Today’s episode is going to dive into how we achieved being entirely debt free before my 30th birthday. And for the record, we pulled off this feat when I was 29 and a half. Money talks. Are you listening? Money, money, money… talking about it can feel weird, but isn’t it the foundation of our whole life? It’s money that allows us to pay our rent, buy our groceries, see the world, feel secure, pay for healthcare... The list goes on. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the negative side of money and dwell on the those ugly and fearful feelings of greed or scarcity. There is a different side to money that often gets overlooked (especially when you are a penny-pinching entrepreneur). You can feel empowered to make money, confident in your worth, and THANKFUL for the money in your life. Money doesn’t HAVE to have a negative connotation (and it shouldn’t!) 208: From Tragedy to Triumph (And Everything in Between)
She is a three-time medalist and the most decorated Paralympic snowboarder in US history. Amy Purdy defied the odds throughout her life to accomplish some extraordinary things. Despite fighting for her life and losing both of her legs below the knees at the age of 19, her passion for living without limits carried her not only to the upper levels of athletics but onto the dance floor of Hollywood and well, well beyond. This girl even toured with OPRAH, and that’s not even the most impressive accomplishment on her long, long list. I’m so inspired by Amy. When she went through one of the most traumatizing events I can imagine, she came out victorious on the other side -- but I know it couldn’t have been easy. How do we handle hard things, find the positives in a difficult situation, and cope with “losing” the career you planned on? In this episode, Amy shared what she *really* means when she wants you to LIVE INSPIRED. This one’s a tear jerker… in the best way. You’re REALLY busy, right? Want to save yourself hours of time? Read on. The facts: The average time spent on a task before losing focus is only 1 minute 15 seconds. Multitaskers reduce productivity by FORTY PERCENT across the board. When multitasking, it takes twice as long to accomplish a certain task AND it increases errors by 50%. Here’s the thing… we’re not REALLY multitasking. We are just switching our mind back and forth rapidly from one task to another, not giving either task our full attention. Today’s episode is all about the method I use in my business to ditch the multitasking lifestyle and work ahead, plan with strategy, work efficiently, and have time off to truly REST. Wonder how I’m going to be able to take THREE MONTHS off for maternity leave? It’s all about BATCH WORKING, friend. 205: Battle the Screen Addiction with These 5 Tips
The unsettling stats about screen time… The average smartphone uses their phone 2 hours 51 minutes per day. The average user clicks, swipes, and taps 2,617 times PER DAY. 47% of parents are concerned that their child is addicted to screens while, 89% of parents blame themselves. The amount of screen time per day — regardless of what the content is — goes hand in hand with the higher instances of depression. Ever since smartphones came on the scene, they have become a constant presence in BOTH our professional and our personal lives. However, this constant sensory overload and overwhelm of information makes our thoughts scattered, impacts our feelings, and ultimately, shapes our LIVES. As a business woman, I want my work to be focused and intentional. From a personal perspective, I want to be present in my life. I want to really LIVE and not just refresh my feed every few minutes. I understand how difficult it can be to break our phone and screen habits, which is exactly why I wanted to make this episode full of TANGIBLE tips, tricks, and methods that will ensure that you can put the phone down, and keep your eyes up. Good news is you don’t need to look at your screen to listen to today’s episode... Well, maybe for a minute. Goal Diggers, I have been dying to have this guest on the show since the very beginning. She is bold, authentic, beautiful, brilliant, and today she is HERE! Goal Diggers, you probably already know and adore her, but officially MEET Iskra Lawrence! Iskra is a British model and a champion for #EveryBODYisBeautiful, body diversity and self-care. Iskra was told she was both “too big” for straight-size modeling and “not big enough” for plus-size modeling… but she has forged her own way. Now she is committed to reshaping the image of women in the media. As a fellow Aerie #AerieREAL Role Model I have joined forces with Iskra to promote unretouched intimates, loungewear and swim campaigns to speak about body positivism. Iskra also serves as a brand ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association, created the NEDA Inspires Award, and is working to generate awareness and support for individuals and families affected by eating disorders. Safe to say this woman has made a name for herself in an industry where she was told NO… A lot. Got something to launch? Perhaps a new product, service, website, course, freebie, or business and you want to share it with your audience? You’ve worked so hard on this new thing and it’s so important to put some thought behind how you are going to reveal it to the world. Far too often there’s not enough time and energy behind the steps for launching and too much focus on the creation process. People can get stuck on this last step. Striving for perfection can cause paralysis and leave us scrambling when it comes time to promote. Here’s the thing -- if it’s not launched well, no one is going to see it anyway. Lucia Pador is a super woman. You may know her from her work at Utterly Engaged, or more recently, her transition into helping others tell their stories and tell them well. Lucia is in my mastermind this year, and I have been AMAZED at how she can curate, visually story-tell, and manage Utterly Engaged flawlessly, while also working on her newest project which will help entrepreneurs tell their own story and leave a true legacy. Lucia is a daughter of immigrant parents who escaped a Communist war-torn country, moving from one refugee camp to another, to finally planting their roots in Southern California and building a beautiful life and business. After 30+ years of providing for their family through his art, Lucia’s father unexpectedly passed away. It was not until after he left this world did she finally see first hand how much of legacy he left behind. Without social media, she was blown away by the impact his art left behind that had spread across continents and oceans. Remembering what she learned from him, and combining her love for storytelling, social media, design and modern marketing, she is on a mission to help others spread their message, art, and creations through the most impactful and meaningful way. I know a lot of entrepreneurs love what they do, but struggle finding clarity, direction, and the know-how to share their message and stand out. I am lucky to have to have THE expert, Lucia Pador to teach us not only how to market ourselves well but to own our stories (even the messy parts!) It’s been a little over a year since I opened my online shop: Shop Jenna Kutcher. It’s been a crazy, beautiful addition to my business and it’s been something I’ve been digging into as we’ve navigated this season of life because having an online digital store has been an incredible addition to my business for a few big reasons. I love having our shop because: 1. I have created resources that have helped me that are now available for everyone to enjoy and use. Why hide all the templates and tools I had built for my business that had attributed to my success? It’s been awesome to say: are you struggling with xyz? I have a resource for this exact thing. 2. It gives me the chance to reach my people with offers that are more accessible for those not ready to take a course or not in a financial place to purchase a full course or system. I love being able to sell well priced products that can help change businesses and give people the tools that they might not be able to purchase elsewhere. 3. It is 90% automated and digital which means we can serve our clients quickly, it’s open and available all the time, and most of it is run through automation which means less work on our part to get people what they need and to deliver a good client experience without having to be attached to every single sale. 188: Real Talk: How to Stand Up For What You Believe In
I want to talk about it. The messy stuff, the embarrassing, the humiliating, the shameful… I want to talk about it. But it’s not always easy. You see, there are some BIG topics out there: body shaming, discrimination, inequality, war, oppression, shame, guilt…. But they aren’t always easy to address. Insert: today’s guest. Alex LaRosa is a plus size model, blogger, and self love advocate based in Los Angeles… This Cali native is ready to share her message of self acceptance and personal growth. She has two major goals: to help other women become the most powerful version of themselves and to see these women represented in fashion. The launch of Visibly Plus Size is a result of Alex's unwavering belief that all different types of women (no matter their size, age, or the color of their skin) benefit from seeing images that represent them in the media. Aside from her brilliant business and insane modelling skills, what also captured my eye is the way that Alex speaks about topics that matter. She recently caught my eye in an instagram comment section where there was a heated debate, and her responses were 1) respectful, but also informative and persuasive. I was so captivated by how this woman spoke up for what she believed that I knew I had to have her on the show. Goal Diggers, without any further adieu, welcome Alex Larosa! 187: My Worst Client Experiences and What They Taught Me
Part of being an entrepreneur means putting on your customer service hat and serving people well - but what happens when things go bad? What implications does it have on not just your business but your life? And how do you pull yourself out of those situations and use them to sincerely grow? I’ll be honest, in my seven years of entrepreneurship, I can count these awful experiences on one hand - maybe two if I took some time to really remember the things that I’ve likely blocked from my memory but when I look back, those were some of the best growing moments in my business, even though those times were rough - like really rough. So today, I want to break down some of the worst experiences that have happened to me in as an entrepreneur and then shed a light on what I ultimately ended up learning the really hard way. My ultimate superwoman, my momma! My mom truly does it all: she is a mother of three (I have one brother and one sister), she has been married for 37 years, is a grandma to two (with two more on the way!), she has been a nurse for over 37 years and specifically a nursing instructor for 29. Not to mention, she coordinates my mastermind, is a Make A Wish granter, and is just generally the most positive, calming person you could ever be around! Today, I wanted my mom to come in to discuss #allthethings like only a mother could do. Hearing what it was like being a working momma, how she found her path, what advice she has for me as I become a mom, what she *really* thinks of my career, and just ALL the mom goodness! Safe to say, I will treasure this episode forever-- without further adieu, my momma, Sue Shelerud! 181: Beat The Algorithm: How To Rock Your Instagram Stories
Goal Diggers, we all know social media is one of THE best ways to get word out there about your business… but sometimes it can get tricky. Today, I wanted to focus on one specific facet of social media that rarely gets taught but can make a GIANT impact on how you’re engaging with your audience: How to ROCK your instagram stories! If you are not utilizing IG stories yet, it’s FINALLY time to get on board. And if you are… it’s time to make sure you are using it to its full potential because it is one of the most unique, impactful ways to move your business forward, engage with your fans in an authentic way, and expand your connection with your followers. Live video is a newer feature in the social media world and with additions like IGTV happening, it’s clear Instagram is sending us a message that if we aren’t using video yet, we better figure out our strategy with it. Essentially, we have a few different options to record ourselves, publish it, and chat with your followers/potential clients. It can be intimidating absolutely, but it is so incredible because it allows you to connect with your audience in real time (and beyond!) and adds an irreplaceable level of humanness and uniqueness to your brand. You essentially get to draw in your potential clients and spread your message in authentic way for free! Let’s dig in and get specific on the strategy around IG stories and many ways to utilize this feature— from swipe ups, photos, graphics, text overlay, live video, featured stories and MORE! You can use it from your personal or you business page, but regardless, there are certain tips to making sure your message gets across and properly received! 179: A Step by Step Guide To Start Your Own Podcast
PODCASTING FOR DUMMIES. If you're considering starting a podcast, wondering what goes into podcasting, or just curious about our behind-the-scenes of this show, this episode is for you! I want to be open about the nitty gritty process of starting a podcast from A to Z and let you in on how you can start one of your own! I’ll admit, starting a podcast is one of the vaguest things in the world. I spent so many days on google trying to find details on things like “How do I get onto iTunes” or “who makes my intro?” It’s still a relatively new “thing”, so you feel a little lost when starting. How do I pick my topic? Demographic? Show name? How the heck do I get a theme song? How do I record it? Safe to say there are a million and one questions and today we will be covering how we started this “little” show that’s grown into one of the biggest pieces of my business. It’s crazy to think that this started less than two years ago and we have already cracked the top 5 out of ALL business shows and top 50 of ALL podcasts. For reference there are over a billion subscriptions spread across 250,000 unique podcasts in more than 100 languages, and that more than 8 million episodes have been published in the iTunes Store to date. Like, that’s insane. But in order to thrive, you have to start with a foundation, and today I am going to teach you how to do JUST that! Wow, wow, wow. This guest. Her mission… Brit Barron is the co-founder of Other Dreamers Culture Consultants and a speaker, writer and diversity and inclusion trainer. Brit spends a lot of time thinking about and talking about how race, gender and sexuality and spirituality interact with our everyday lives and our work. Brit is obsessed with finding new ways to connect people and things that have been told they should not go together. She has a bachelors and masters degrees in psychology and is probably already analyzing me as I type this! Brit has spoken all over the country, she has a TED talk about Beyonce and race in America and she is ready to share her expertise with you! I was introduced to you by the women dynamo Emily Sexton (remember her LIFE CHANGING episode?!). Emily consulted Brit to ensure that her business was casting a wide net and ensuring that every woman felt heard, seen, and valued. And wow, is Brit the perfect person for the job! In this episode you will learn how to easily cultivate a network of connection and support, pioneer change and inclusion in your workplace (...and your life!), find genuine community, tackle the “hard” topics, and how to truly live a life that exemplifies “community over competition.” You in? "At the end of the day, we are BETTER TOGETHER than separate. Governments with more women involved have higher rates of peace. Companies with higher amounts of people with color in leadership, do better economically because they reach more markets... so yes, we are better together. But first, we have to deal with why those people weren't at the table to begin with." Simply put, Brit knows her stuff. She is an expert on inclusion: from her unique personal perspective to statistics all the way to tangible action steps, Brit is reminding us every day that "people matter." Always, and in all ways. This. Woman. Boundary-breaking, unifying, inspiring... every possible positive adjective I could write. She is something so rare and the way that she talks about things that matter is so inspiring to me. 177: The Entrepreneur's Guide To SEO: How-to, Hacks, and Tricks to Get Traffic
SEO. Search Engine Optimization. It makes many of us want to put our head in the sand and pretend it doesn’t exist, am I right? I’m guilty of having done that for years until I realized it’s not as scary as we’ve made it out to be and there are some major benefits that can come from some simple implementation on your end. So today I want to break it down and demystify this topic for all of you - because it’s time to put some strategy behind our search engine results. Search Engine Optimization basically means the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine. SEO can be a really complex topic to cover (especially on a podcast!) so my goal today is breaking it down to the basics, tell you where best to invest your time, and prove to you that it’s not so scary so you take action and get started. In my experience, even starting out small with a simple strategy can make a big impact on the traffic that is coming to your website…. Because what good is a website if no one knows it exists? Let me give it to ya straight: this blog post is only the outline of this show. To get the full impact of this show, I recommend reading along with this blog and writing down all the specific details to maximize your SEO journey. 163: 5 Easy Ways to Promote a Freebie and Grow Your List
Ready to save HOURS every week?! We need to flip the script and instead of creating new content 90% of the time and marketing them 10%, we should be creating less and marketing them more. Last year we created over 50 new opt ins! Growing our email email list was our number one priority and so we created a ton of new material that quite honestly, didn’t all need to be made. I recently talked about how to create less content with more impact and today I want to take it a step further and show from start to finish how we continuously share one opt-in. This year we’re prioritizing working smarter (not harder) and have come up with a plan on how to share what’s already been created and get the most mileage out of our existing content. Whether you’re like us and are content creating machines, or if you have limited content and sometimes don’t know what else to share, today’s episode is going to walk you through 5 ways to promote your opt-in. The sky is the limit with creatively sharing your content! Here are just a few ideas I can think of off the top of my head: create an FB ad pointing to your freebie, promote it on a podcast, collaborate with another freebie, target a different audience, etc. The point? I hope this episode inspired you to make the most of your content and work more on SHARING it to get the most bang for your buck! Goal Diggers, take this as your sign that it's officially time to work smarter, not harder. 161: This One is Dedicated to the Haters - Handling Criticism 101
If you’re pleasing everyone you’re probably pleasing no one - including yourself. Here’s the thing, you are not going to be able to please everyone. These people that take the time to write you a mean message? They aren’t your people. Focus on the ones that are and the fact that everyone is not going to love you or your message is ok. It’s more than ok. The more I do this, the more eyes I have on me, my life, my body, my business. Putting yourself out there open YOU up for criticism but I have to remind myself that when you’re doing the big, hard word, people will notice and sometimes it won’t be the RIGHT people but when you can sincerely learn to focus on the good, to keep your heart open, and to protect your energy to be poured into the right things, you’ll become more convicted in your message and you’ll be more prepared to fight for what you really believe in. “You’re fat.” “Unhealthy” “Enough with the underwear pics… you’re a smart girl, you have more things to say, unfollowing.” “Do you know that your eyebrows are way darker than your hair? You should change that.” “How did YOU land such a good looking guy?” “10 emails in 3 days? Go F** yourself. Way to f’in annoy potential clients. F’in idiot.” “You’re way too aggressive, I’m out.” You might think it’s all rainbows and butterflies over here in Jenna Kutcher land, and it’s true - we have the most supportive, loving and just all around amazing tribe. But. I’ve found where there is a success, ugly things can creep in and try to attack too. I love to say “More followers, more problems” and a lot of times, we’re fighting battles behind our screens that people never see. I want to dedicate this episode to the haters today and share how I handle criticism. To prove I’m not invincible, I thought I’d read you some emails that have landed in my inbox. These were hard to find because my team does a good job protecting me from them, but here are a few we could dig up: (I’m thankful that we had to actually dig to find these because it’s a testament to the great people we have supporting us!!) This episode is dedicated to getting you through the harsh feedback, trolling, and haters. This is for business women, for you, for me. Let's do this. 158: Calling All Introverts: How You Can Build a Personable Brand
CALLING ALL INTROVERTS. I get it, social media can seem like it is reserved for the extroverted, the larger than life, the charismatic. But, friends, you belong- ad you can THRIVE, even if you are more quiet and composed than the others. There are few people who serve their audience as well as this woman, and I can’t wait for her to teach you about what it TRULY means to wholeheartedly serve your followers (even when you are more shy than not). Morgan Harper Nichols is an artist and designer, who specializes in making work for people and their stories. Her song, “Storyteller” has garnered over 1 million Spotify plays and her self-published book of poetry by the same title is a #1 Amazon Bestseller in Inspirational Poetry. Morgan lives in Los Angeles, and has made her life’s work about creating for the stories of others, through music, words, art, and design. She started writing for certain people that came to her mind, however, she would rarely share any of it. When a blog post that she wrote for a group of young women she knew was pinned on Pinterest more than 200k times, she began to explore the many ways that a message could spread beyond what she thought could possible, and she has been creating for others full time ever since. Morgan now works as a writer, designer, and travels as a speaker and performer. Safe to say, this woman does it all, and with such grace and heart-- I can’t wait for her to teach you about fully utilizing social media to expand your brand, stay in your comfort zone, and turn your followers into FANS. You have so much to learn from this woman, and I can’t wait for you to hear what she has to say. Goal Diggers, welcome Morgan Harper Nichols! 157: What's a Visual Brand and Why Do You Need One?
Let Me Give It To Ya Straight: Did you know 30% of our brains are taken up by neurons devoted to visual processing as compared to 8% devoted to touch and only 3% devoted to hearing. People have the ability to process visual information 60,000x faster than text information! 63% of social media is made up of images AND photos on Facebook get 53% more likes than the average post. You have 8 seconds to make an impression and get someone’s attention before they click to something else. That’s shorter than the attention span of a goldfish. Alright, did I get your attention? Long story short: visuals matter. And today I’m going to walk you through ways that you can share stories through the images, fonts, colors, and styles you are sharing online. I get it, we all know that stories matter but maybe we’re struggling with how to share stories through the images we’re trying to make all "Instagram worthy." This episode is to show you that visuals of your brand go FAR beyond being aesthetically pleasing or "pretty"- they can truly make you brand and personality memorable, professional, ... and most importantly, move your bottom line. Ready to post with purpose? Thought so!

Yep, you guessed it—our relationship with ourselves. Strengthening your sense of love and respect for yourself is the key to experiencing true fulfillment and living your best life. Some people think that learning to love yourself is as simple as taking some bubble baths and getting an occasional mani-pedi. If I had a dollar for every time I got the question “Where do I find a Caitlyn or Kate or Danielle”, I’d be permanently retired on a beach in Hawaii. Having just taken 6 weeks off while these ladies ran my business for me, I can wholeheartedly say that investing in my team was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and is at the top of my list in terms of priorities again for this year. After reading all the questions you guys asked in last week's episode "Ask Jenna Anything About Hiring A Team" I thought I would make a tangible, step-by-step guide in what to look for, how to hire, and the logistics of growing a team. So, today I want to share to those of you thinking about adding to your team this year, how to identify what role would fit your business best, pick the best person and then what you can do to prepare to hand things over for a smooth transition. And before you think this might not be for you and leave me in this episode, let me challenge you to say that even starting small will make a huge impact and I believe anyone in business can benefit from what I’m going to share today.
152: Motherhood + Entrepreneurship: The Balancing Act
Hey Goal Diggers, today we are diving into a topic that I have never talked about on Goal Digger before…. Balancing both your motherhood and entrepreneurial roles. It’s no secret that these two roles can get chaotic, but there IS a way to do both, and I couldn’t think of anyone better to talk with than Johnna Holmgren of Fox Meets Bear! Johnna seems to have the magic secret to balancing ALL THE THINGS. She is a mother, creative, and author of the cookbook titled, 'Tales from a Forager’s Kitchen’. She lives in the woods of Minnesota with her husband and her three girls where they spend as much time as they can outdoors hiking and foraging, cooking and baking, homeschooling and peaceful parenting. (And cleaning up way too many messes from their two dogs, two cats, and a small flock of ducks and chicks!) It’s safe to say this woman capitalized and evolved both of these roles and intertwined both her motherly side and business side into a really beautiful partnership., and I am so excited to talk to her about how to transition with your career when you have children. What an episode, what a topic, what a woman. Johnna reminds us that is okay to be fully human-- striving in our careers and also pausing (and melting!) around our children. If I've learned anything in this episode it's that each of our journeys look different, but we just have to tune in to our instincts and do our best, every day.
Hey Goal Diggers! Another “Ask Jenna Anything” Episode! I fielded your questions from both the Goal Digger Insiders FB group and the Goal Digger Instagram (if you’re not hanging out there, you’re totally missing out!) I was absolutely floored by the amount of responses I got from you guys, and I decided to group them by category! I am still letting you call the shots and am fully covering ALL the nitty gritty details. Many of you know my story-- a burnt out photographer, blogger, businesswoman juggling (and struggling) with all the balls in the air. BUT finally, I reached a breaking point, took a leap, and outsourced one job… then two.. Then hired a full-time member… and another… It’s been a whirlwind, but the BEST decision I’ve ever made, and today we are covering all the behind the scenes magic of how you can hire your own dream team! Let’s get started! TUNE IN TO HEAR THE JUICY ANSWERS TO ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS! (Is your name mentioned on air?!) Okay, first things first… so many of you asked! So here is a quick RUN DOWN OF TEAM JK What does your current team like? What are their roles? Are they full-time part time? Is YOUR team in person or all online? Caitlyn, Kate, Danielle, Kerry, Steph, Ashlyn, Rebecca, Alex (?) Morgan K: Jenna! I need help with the struggle of taking my personal brand to hiring. I own a fitness studio, named as me and had so much growth this year. I wonder how to prepare clients I engage with face to face each day that someone else will soon be in front of them too! Marie W: What I’m currently needing help with is HOW do you go about hiring your first employee? Where do you look? What do you look for? I really need someone to help manage my day to day tasks but I’m terrified of hiring someone who isn’t a good fit Meagan J: How do you divide responsibilities during a project? And about communication, I know you communicate via slack, but being that your team members are mostly contractors and set their own schedules, are your communications ever lost in translation when someone isn't logged in? Another from Megan J (above): How do you set expectations when taking on a new team member? Megan J (again! Love it!): Do you find it difficult to work remotely with your team at times? Alyssa C: How do you budget for hourly workers? Are they paid a "set" number of hours per week? I loved your episode on hiring your team, but want to hear more about the hourly worker piece, especially with everyone working remotely. Rebecca T: What is the best way to hire/create a great brand ambassador? Molly G: How do you, Jenna Kutcher yourself, make time to reach out and offer guidance to everyone, given the huge volume of photographers and fans you have? How do you keep it personal and meaningful? What keeps you from delegating most of this to your support team? Melissa (Instagram) Have y'all set up a Trello board or anything like that to communicate deadline, ideas, etc? Blue salad (on Instagram) : How do you handle management of your company with employees and keeping your brand consistent? Aida G: Hey Jenna, I would love to know how you handle all the projects that you have going on without being overwhelmed (I know you have people working for you - but, you also need to keep track of what they are doing - right?). I just want to learn how I can juggle different projects in the most efficient way. Thanks for all your amazing content: Corinna-marie (Instagram) Hi Jenna!! My question is is in regards to your amazing team. How did you find them and what is your advice for someone who wants to be on a team like yours! Where can you find those opportunities and how can you best position yourself as a candidate to become a boss babe's employee? -------- And, as always, if you have questions for me, I am CONSTANTLY checking our Goal Digger Podcast Insiders FB group and Goal Digger Instagram account to make sure I am answering YOUR questions. I want to see your name in those groups!
150: Chatting With a Lawyer: How To Legally Protect Yourself
Goal Diggers, this episode has the potential to completely change your business… Seriously. Our guest today,Christina Scalera, is the legal attorney and founder behind The Contract Shop, a contract template store for creative entrepreneurs, wedding professionals, and coaches... Christina is a creative as well and soon realized that she could blend her two interests (creativity and law) into a business that brought the benefit of her legal training to help her fellow creatives. It became clear that my fellow creatives needed legal help-- there wasn’t anything or anyone out there to help them. On the one hand, other legal sites provided contract templates that were too generic and disconnected from the pulse of the creative industry. On the other, hiring an attorney is a difficult process-- you don’t know who is good and who isn’t, and even if you found the cheapest attorney out there, hiring someone to draft your business contracts is an expensive endeavour. And today we are lucky enough to hear everything you need to know about using contracts in your business …. In this episode, Christina will flip the script on what you think you know about contracts and show you how they're a relationship-building and money-making tool.
CONTENT CREATION, CONTENT CREATION, CONTENT CREATION! Those 2 words can send chills up a creative entrepreneurs spine. Form blog posts, social media captions, email opt-ins, facebook posts, you name it-- you've got to create it! BUT If you’ve been around here for awhile, you’ve probably heard me say this - but it’s worth repeating: there is literally no one stalking your business, refreshing your newsfeed or seeing everything you put out into the world the first time. Ok, maybe your mom reads every word - but that’s probably it. Between social media algorithms, busy lives and just an overload of information - I can guarantee most of your audience is missing your great information. Did you know that only 6% of your audience is even seeing what you’re sharing! Further, we’re hopefully growing our followings and so new audiences are joining your tribe every day - have they seen the great content that you put out and worked hard on? NO. Let’s not reinvent the wheel and instead, get more mileage out of what already exists rather than feeling the pressure to create something new all of the time. When it comes to content creation, overwhelm probably isn’t too far behind! So today I’m going to walk you through the lifecycle of my content in the hopes that it inspires you (and saves you a boat load of time in the creation process.)
148: How She Raised over 2 Million Dollars In Sponsorships...
It’s awkward, it’s confusing, and it’s often discouraging. What am I talking about? GETTING SPONSORSHIPS. Yup, we’re going there. What do you do when you need funding for an event or business venture? Who do you call? What do you even say? Well, For serial entrepreneur Brandice Daniel, “no” is not the end of the negotiations, it’s only the beginning... Today, as CEO of Harlem’s Fashion Row and co-founder of the Great Girlfriends podcast, Brandice brings that same passion and determination to her businesses as she strives each day to connect people to their own passions and purpose. Brandice has secured over $2 million dollars for events. She has been featured in NY Times, Forbes, Washington Post, Teen Vogue, NY Cut and more. Harlem Fashion Row has partnered with Verizon, Prudential, Pandora Jewelry, Target, Smartwater, Covergirl, Nissan, Macy’s, and more, and today, Brandice is going to teach us how we can secure sponsorships of our own!
147: The Secret To Navigating Marriage as a Bread-Winning Wife
Alright, Goal Diggers, let’s talk about something that usually is pretty hush-hush in the #girlboss world…. navigating marriage as a powerful business woman. One of the things that makes me laugh (and frankly makes me a little angry) is when I tell people what I do and they immediately follow up their question with a “What does your husband do?” It’s easy to feel like people treat my job like it’s a hobby and that’s partially my fault because I struggle at sharing the scale of my business but when it comes down to relationship roles, I want to share a few of things we’ve learned as my business has grown from non-existent to a 7-figure empire in the span of our marriage. It can be difficult to be a woman that is striving for more in her career: Goes against traditional gender roles People question your priorities It’s easy to feel like a workaholic compared to peers Marriage as a #girlboss can look a little different than the storybook we’ve been told, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with it! I love the quote, “Be the CEO your parents hoped you would marry!” Ummm, can we get an amen? In fact, there is so much that can be RIGHT about it… fulfilling relationships, successful careers, comfortable incomes, driven mindsets. But it DOES require a little work, and today I am going to tell you how to make the most of your marriage as a strong, independent, MARRIED woman!
Giddy up, Goal Diggers, because today we are digging into Writing a Book 101 with the incredible author and girl boss, Rachel Hollis! Rachel is the host of Dais podcast, and she was such a joy to interview. This rockstart woman is a best-selling author, tv personality, public speaker, CEO, and mother of four. As if that wasn’t enough, Rachel was named by Inc. Magazine as one of the "Top 30 Entrepreneurs under 30” and she is deeply passionate about women in business. In addition to an online reach in the millions, Rachel has written several books from cookbooks and fiction series all the way to her most recent “Girl, Wash Your Face”. and has one of the most impressive book launch processes I’ve ever seen, and today she is peeling back the curtain and letting us see how the magic happens! If you have ever asked "how to write a book, "how to self publish a book" or "how to get a book published" Rachel walks through each option with tangible advice. From creativity to finances, we are talking about it ALL! If writing has always been on your bucket list, but you don't even know where to start, you are in the right place!
145: 5 Lessons I Learned from Leading a Mastermind
Have you wondered "Should I join a mastermind?" "Should I lead a mastermind", or the most common, "What is a mastermind?!" ...You're in the right place. This year started with a bang as I hosted my first retreat with the Jenna Kutcher Mastermind group. 25 incredible women from all over the country (and Canada) gathered together in Waco, Texas where we spent 3 days diving into their lives, digging into their businesses, and helping them establish the dreams and set the goals they will achieve over the next year. Throughout the year we will meet up in person 3 times at different locations where we will come together, troubleshoot things in our businesses, learn new techniques and strategies, and commune as a whole. Hosting a mastermind is probably the BEST thing I’ve ever done as an entrepreneur and I am so thankful that I get to lead these women through their best year yet. I’ve talked about why I don’t offer one-on-one coaching in an episode on the show and so today I want to break down the 5 big lessons I learned from leading a mastermind and share a little about our experience. If you want to gain knowledge in fostering community, building your business, creating meaningful connections, and taking your business to the next level, you're in the right place!
I was introduced to the amazing Lindsey in my Photo Lab course, and have watched Lindsey's photography business FLOURISH in the past few years. She gives us her top tips for relocating as a small business owner, targeting your dream client, how to get paid for your passion, starting a small business, marketing yourself in a way that gets your hired, and why investing in education is a must-do. Today she is going to tell us how she developed her niche of photographing adventurous couples in Hawaii, why she decided to invest in her future, and what she has learned being the girl boss behind an ever-growing photography business! THIS EPISODE IS FOR YOU IF.... If you and your small business could be relocating soon, you NEED to listen to Lindsey's tactics at ensuring you don't just survive, but THRIVE. You are taking any work that comes your way and not targeting your dream clients. Tune in to hear how Lindsey created sustainable work from a niche-specific business. If you want to ensure your dream client sees you, hears you, (and hires you!) If you are debating if investing in education is worth it.... Like I mentioned above, The Photo Lab is what originally introduced Lindsey and me. That's right-- she went from a follower, to a student, to my personal photographer all the way to a podcast guest! In the episode, I tell you about my first thoughts on Lindsey, and how I just knew she would run with the course. I loved chatting with Lindsey about the course in such a genuine, authentic way. Lindsey bought it right when she was going full-time, and invested in herself fully. She had a vision for where she wanted to go, but didn't know how to get there, and decided to "bet on herself" by signing up for a course. I loved how Lindsey said a course is a "fast track ticket" because it gives you all the information up front that would've taken years to learn. She couldn't have said it better, "When you spend the money on education and yourself-- you will get that money back. Without a doubt, if you put the work in, you will get your investment back-- and then some." Lindsey is SUCH a bright light- as a photographer, business owner, student, and just as a WOMAN. I can't wait for you to meet this ray of sunshine, Goal Diggers!
Ahhhh, sweet, sweet photography. There is simply nothing better than getting behind the lens each and every day. ... But it’s not always straight-forward. There are many tips and tricks that get engagement, turn followers into clients, and using photography to not only get likes but to drive your bottom line. Which is why I am SO excited about today’s episode where I am digging into the real life, behind the scenes those instagram photos. This is another session of Ask Jenna Anything dedicated SOLELY to one topic: photography! Today I am answering YOUR most raw, real-life questions about photography. Ready to attract your dream clients, fill your calendar, and get your best photos yet?! Let's do it! Tune in to hear me answer these questions below! Christine D: Can I photographer make 6 figures by NOT selling educational classes and such? Shannon R: How do you convince clients to hire your associate photogs instead of you? Kari G: I would love to hear more about your Photography...what resources did you use when you were first learning, what tips or recommendations do you have for new photographers? Elizabeth M: I would love to hear more background on the educational/courses side of your business... What was your first ever course? How did the launch go? Did you build up an audience via your photography business to launch to initially? :) Really just ANY advice about transitioning a business from client work to also offering education on your industry! Starr M: I want to know more about coping with competition and copycatting. I live in a small town and notice that everyone in the creative industry copies. I live in a community of 1200 and find alot of copycatting going on with other photographers in the industry. If I put out a wood box for my clients, then so does everyone else. If I add an item to my pricelist, so do they. If I change all my wedding packages to 8 hours so do they. I have been just looking the other way, supporting them and being nice and focusing on the next thing for myself...should I keep doing this, or what? Meredith G: know we talk a bunch about your business but i would love to get back to the genesis of it all, how photography makes you feel how you've changed as a photographer. Ashley R: -Information about second photographers(how much to pay them, what to expect of them)? Ashely R: -When should photographers raise their prices? Brooke J: How did you book 25 weddings in one year? What does serving your bride and groom look like? I'm so interested in hearing more about your photography business growth. I'm currently at a place where I built up my photography business doing all kinds of shoots since 2014 but I have been working full time as a teacher. Actress, singer, songwriter and entrepreneur Caitlin Crosby knows a thing or two about inspiring others. Growing up in Hollywood and in a family that lived and breathed the entertainment industry, Caitlin has been immered in “success” since early on in her life. But she felt called to more-- helping others embrace their so-called imperfections, changing our perspective to see flaws as beautiful. Caitlin started giving and selling keys with inspiring messages like FEARLESS, BELIEVE or INSPIRE as jewelry. Her company, The Giving Keys have been sold at Nordstrom, Ron Robinson, Starbucks and over 1,400 other retail stores around the world. ... But what happens when you “make it”? What is the hidden side of success that creates vulnerability? Have you ever gotten everything you’ve ever wanted… and still felt a little stuck? I am so thankful for the openness of this incredible woman, and I can’t wait for you to hear her *real*, raw story.
141: How I Booked 25 Weddings With ZERO Experience
All my photography Goal Diggers always ask me “how did you book 25 weddings your first year and match your salary so you could make the leap?” I get asked about this SO much and it’s a part of my story that I sometimes breeze over because I’m often on a webinar or speaking at an event and don’t have the time to really dive into it. Well, Goal Diggers, let’s just say it wasn’t exactly on our vision board, but God had a plan, and everything has fallen into place so perfectly. The big life change is…. we’re moving to Minnesota! Duluth, Minnesota to be exact. That’s right, Drew and I will be moving 6 hours away from our current home and community, and we couldn’t be more excited. But many people are asking: Why are we moving away from Fort Atkinson? What prompted the big move? What does our new house look like? When are we moving? What does this mean for business? And ultimately, why we decided to move away from friends, our gym, our home? The truth is, there is a lot of behind the scenes of our lives that you don’t always see in social media, and today I am walking you through a more personal story of why we are moving across states somewhat abruptly… I wanted to share a little bit about how this big move transpired and how God’s hand was in every little piece of it and also what our plan is going to be moving forward! This is a HUGE life change for us, Goal Diggers, and I am so excited to let you in on the secrets behind it! Any advice on moving far distances?! Our last move was only 10 miles, and now this one is across states! If you have any tips, head over to @goaldiggerpodcast on instagram and give me your best moving hacks! Because WE NEED THEM.

THE REALITY OF GOING VIRAL: The true story of how we (accidentally) created viral content, grew our following, and got national press... Simply by being who we are. In case you missed it, our marriage has been on the national (and international!) stage as a post of us in swimsuits went viral. We've gained followers, saw a boost of an engagement, and grew our business all within one whirlwind week. Sound like a great gig? It was.... and wasn't. In this episode, I tell you everything you need to know about going viral. The wins, the losses (may or may not have gotten emotional reading the "mean comments" on air...), and the final outcome. Was it worth it? It was. Did it have downsides? You bet. And I'm about to fill you in on ALL of it. If you're on the quest to create viral content, this episode is for you!
When people ask me what I do, I always pause and ask myself: “Do they realllly want to know or are they just asking to be kind.” I’m a: wedding photographer, a podcaster, and online marketing educator, I am a public speaker, I have an island rental unit on Maui, I’m a marketing consultant, I sell watercolor prints, I have an online digital template shop, I do brand collaborations on social media… should I continue? The truth is, if that list hasn’t made it clear: I am passionate about more than one thing and I’ve been lucky enough to pursue each passion while also driving profits into my business because of how I’ve managed those passions. Where do you start when you have a bunch of good ideas and you want to do them all? Let’s address this because starting is usually the hardest thing... In this episode, I will teach you how to pivot, chase multiple passions, AND create profit. One of the BEST things about being multi-passionate and having a multifaceted business means that if one branch of my business isn’t performing well or I need a break from it, my business won’t fail. I am not tied to just one piece of my business but have many angles contributing, taking the pressure off of focusing on ONE thing. In this episode you'll find how you can balance being a multi-passionate human being. Remember those things you’re passionate about, curious about, those aren’t by chance. Those might be your calling.

If you're wondering how to gain more followers, this episode may have you think again. Kathryn reminds us all to slow down, meditate (her tips for mediation and hacks for breathing are perfect!) Kathryn is one of the most invested, genuine, and authentic people in the world, and today she is telling us allllllll about the ebbs and flows of her career path and how YOU can transition with your work. If you are feeling complacent or trapped in a box in your career, you need to listen to this! You CAN dream big dreams and evolve-- you are not “one thing”-- you are limitless. Let’s dig in, shall we?
A year and a half ago I had NO team. It was just me, trying to run every aspect of my business. For SO long I had my grip so tight on control: wanting to control every thing from my email inbox to my social media strategy from photography, finances, and the list goes on… while I was making it happen, it wasn’t easy and in reality I was stunting my own growth simply because I was too proud to let someone in. Then I learned how to hire a team. But this is where the real lesson started: how do you bring that team together and promote teamwork, creative thinking, and problem solving? And I figured it out. Goal Diggers, we are talking about how YOU can hire a team and grow your business in the process. We are covering everything from: -The questions to ask your team to ensure you're on the same page -How to delegate in a way that empowers -How to pass along ownership (and watch your business grow in the process!) -The secret to growth and getting feedback in a comfortable way -Ensuring that your team prioritizes their work well So whether you have ONE VA or you’re thinking about adding to a growing team, I want to talk about ways you can create a team culture and what that can look like as your business grows. One of the best gifts is being able to run a business that not just affords my life but supports other women and their families plus I have a TEAM of women helping me live out my mission while they are chasing their dreams in tandem. You want in on the secrets? Join in! PSST: You don't want to miss the freebie in this episode
So let's say you have a side hustle and you're wanting to turn it into a full-time gig? How exactly do you do you grow your business to that point? Where do you invest your money? How many hours do you work? What does that transition truly look like? How do you make sure your finances, branding, team, taxes, and, heck, YOURSELF, are ready to make the leap? Let's just say there are a lot of questions that small business owners are asking. So today we decided to chat with Jaclyn Johnson of Create and Cultivate-- a brilliant business woman who turned her side hustle into a mega successful (crazy impactful) full-time gig. And her business is all about, well, exactly the questions we just mentioned.... giving small business owners a place to ask their "dumb questions" and teaching entrepreneurs how to collaborate and share their secrets. In this episode we hear Jaclyn's entrepreneurship journey from crazy highs (being a social media strategy prodigy) to crazy low lows (losing her job when the economy crashed), all the way to splitting up with her business partner, starting fresh, and building the company of her dreams. Her story is wildly inspiring and if that isn't enough to motivate you, I don't know what is. This story will remind you that *no one* has it all figured out, and life is a whole lot easier, more fulfilling, and joyful when we Create and Cultivate. Together. Goal Diggers, welcome, Jaclyn Johnson!

With recent changes in the newsfeed, it’s important to pivot, be resilient and adaptable and figure out a game plan for rocking social well. There are many tips and tricks that get engagement, turn followers into clients, and using social media to not only get likes but to drive your bottom line. Which is why I am SO excited about today’s episode where I am digging into the real life, behind the scenes of those little apps. This is another session of Ask Jenna Anything dedicated SOLELY to one topic: social media! Today I am answering YOUR most raw, real-life questions about social media. Ready to get social? Let's do it! Tune in to hear me answer these questions below! Jess W: I'd like to know your posting social media workflow with multiple projects facing close deadlines. I'm drowning! Stephanie M: what do you do to prep yourself for doing live videos? I hate being on video, but I know FB live and Instagram stories are a great way to connect with your followers. Amanda P: Also, I'd love to hear more about your travels. That topic has kid of lost its light in your message, but I'd be interested in what/how you pack, and what you do and see! Kate S (Instagram): I have such a hard time sharing who I actually *am* instead of pictures of my work? I know I need to, but I struggle... Advice on this? Lauren L: I could listen to you talk about content creation all day long! I know you already have some episodes that cover this, but it doesn't sound to the rest of us repetitive to keep hearing about it Fuel Goodness (Instagram): would love to know how you’ve grown your social media accounts Fuel Goodness also asked: would love to know how you leverage your social media to get (paid) sponsorships? Danielle asks: What do you think is your secret superpower that made people resonate with you? Oh goodness, I mean, naps are my true superpower but I think the ability to show that I'm not perfect in a way that encourages other people to "come as they are" into life, online, and definitely on Instagram. It's about revealing the "imperfections" without making it feel heavy or messy for others but instead it being a gentle reminder that they aren't alone. Rachael says: I know you say your main focus is on growing your email list, can you explain why it’s still important to grow your social media following and why you still believe in the power of things like Instagram in your biz? Lauren Nicole: Yesterday, I was listening to your podcast about growing a community on social media but I keep coming back to the same question. It all sounds great if I were selling a service, but I am *trying* to grow a brand/company and am not selling a service but a product? How do you put yourself in your business, make it feel personal, but not have it look "an artist that makes things". Courtney K (Instagram): what are your thoughts on sponsored content? how do you navigate it? Episode 103 Courtney K Also Asked: how do you maintain authenticity while following sponsored post rules and not being like #sponsored 24/7? And, as always, if you have questions for me, I am CONSTANTLY checking our Goal Digger Podcast Insiders FB group and Goal Digger Instagram account to make sure I am answering YOUR questions. You guys are the fire behind this podcast, and I want to hear from y-o-u!

I remember the first week I worked from home. I’m pretty sure I didn’t get out of bed, had Grey’s Anatomy on 24/7 and even brought breakfast into bed and ate on a little tray…. I feel like it’s time again to reach out and talk about some of the behind the scenes things that are happening in my life that I haven’t really put out into the world: for fear, because of insecurity, or just because they were too close to my heart so share on such a public forum… until now.

When I wrote down goals for this podcast before I had recorded a single episode, she was at the top of my list for hopes on who to interview. It’s no secret that Joanna Gaines is my spirit animal, after watching her for years, she’s become a woman of inspiration in my life. You might know her as the queen of shiplap, the wife of Chip, the mom of four littles, and the mastermind behind Magnolia. Beyond just being an HGTV goddess, I’ve watched and learned so much from Joanna Gaines and since my biggest goal when starting this whole show was to have her come on the podcast, I figured I’d record an episode about what she’s taught me over the years just from watching her navigate the growth their business has seen. We are covering all the Joanna Gaines basics: being so authentically yourself, navigating living a “public” life with grace, chasing your faith, becoming a branding guru, and .... (any guesses on that 5th one?!) Beyond the shiplap and perfectly styled kitchens, I’ve been watching a woman who is changing lives through her ability to create connections while still maintaining what’s most important to her and through listening to the calls she is getting as her empire continues to grow and expand. I think we should all tag Joanna on Instagram and get her attention, because I’d love to hear her own take on her journey and what it’s looked like as they’ve navigated each season in the public eye! What do you say, Goal Diggers? Cheers to THE lady, Joanna Gaines!
Wow. This episode, y’all. Talk about vulnerability and hard conversations... Recently, it was pointed out to me that I have lacked diversity in my guests on Goal Digger, and I was so taken aback... because it was true. And I hadn’t even realized... This moment struck me— was my privilege so strong that I had grown blind to my mission for TRUE community? Made up of all colors, sizes, backgrounds? Before this epiphany, I had already asked my amazing friend, Lauren Taylor, to join us on the show... and I just knew that we had to have an honest conversation on this topic. Lauren is bold, authentic, and allowed for a fully human, incredibly candid conversation on race, inclusion, and diversity in the creative industry. Lauren shared her honest heart (and her incredible brains!) with us in this episode while sharing personal experiences with racial profiling, lack of diversity... and how she keeps making her mark in the world— on her own terms. I don’t know how to summarize this episode except that we WENT THERE— true stories of race, diversity, and inclusion. The biggest takeaway? We can all do better. We NEED to do better.
Over the last 6 months, I’ve gotten serious about learning how to manage my stress better and in that, I’ve taken away a lot of tips that have kept me more mindful and allowed me to handle stress in new ways without it reeking havoc in my life or taking me prisoner to outside circumstances I can’t control. So there you have it, 5 ways I’ve been focusing on managing stress better! It’s funny, after we did our testing for fertility and I found out my cortisol levels were off the charts, I started to see stress in a new way. In fact, I wasn’t feeling stressed at the time. I felt clear, in control of my business, and excited about what’s next but when I started to realize that maybe I had just gotten used to operating under high stress, I started to see that each day I have an energy bank and I can choose where my energy is going. I want it to go to positive, impactful, intentional facets of my life and stress isn’t serving me (or anyone else.) I started to let go of more things, be more forward in conversations, set better boundaries, and pay attention to the stressors on my life and how they are impacting me, my work, and my life. One of the most common misconceptions about stress is that we need to figure out how to reduce is but stress usually relates to things outside of our control so instead of trying to reduce it, it’s more important to learn how to manage it! That's exactly why I am sharing my FIVE biggest stress management tactics on today's bonus episode-- So when life happens, you’re equipped. You ready to dive in?
123: The Secret Behind My Most Liked Instagram Posts EVER
As entrepreneurs, we often try and turn our social media feed into one big marketing pitch: proving that we are experts, sharing our products and services daily, signing our own praises and sharing testimonials, but let me tell you something: every single human being out there is struggling and sometimes when we can share that struggle, it can make more of an impact in this world than any marketing pitch ever could. So many people ask me how I grew my social media following-- like I have a secret and the truth is: I don’t really believe that secrets exist. I grew my following because I became a master at creating connection online… the kind of connection that leads people to talk about me like I’m their best friend and the same kind of connection that leaves people telling their friends about me. That, my friends, is the secret to growth: serve the people that are showing up for you SO well that they come back and they bring friends. It’s no surprise that I’m a big fan of social media analytics. I LOVE numbers, in fact, in episode 15 I shared that I was afraid to tell you how obsessive I can get with numbers. For me, in a creative world where very few things are concrete and measurable, numbers give me relief and so when I started to dig into my Instagram analytics, I wasn’t entirely shocked at the results, in fact, I smiled because 90% of my top performing posts had nothing to do with marketing or anything that I was selling, they had to do with something I’m passionate about and something I’m struggling with: body confidence. Now, hear me out before you think I’m about to tell you to show up online in your underpants (because I’ll be honest, I know you probably won’t do that… although I have to tell ya, it’s not as scary as you might think.) Sometimes the things we are most insecure about, most scared to share… those are the things that will form the deepest connections.
122: What You Should Really Know About Sharing Your Faith With Jamie Ivey
Goal Diggers, I am teaming up with a fellow lady boss podcaster, the incredible Jamie Ivey of the Happy Hour Podcast! Jamie has always inspired me with her ability to be so vividly authentic and so relaxed in sharing her faith, no matter what platform she is on. She truly emits her faith (and her humanness!) in every interaction. When she talks blatantly about it, it never seems preachy or intense-- it just seems very real, very inviting. I love her voice, and I think we all have something to learn about sharing our true selves: whether it is our faith, our struggles, our ambitions-- whatever it is, Jamie is about to show you how to emit your true self on this wild little online world we live in. Also, Jamie is a past radio show host (yes, really!) so it's safe to say that she is a phenomenal interviewer and provided for one of the most well-spoken interviews we've had. We covered everything from: -Content creation -How to start a podcast -How to write a book - Bringing personality to your brand and social media -Her adoption journey -Her faith mission It's safe to say we covered ALL of the bases with this phenomenal woman, and I cannot wait to hear what you take away from today! If there is a specific tidbit that helped you, let us know at @goaldiggerpodcast on Instagram. We can't wait to hear from you!

She works behind the scenes for me in SO many ways: growing my email list, creating opt-ins and funnels, and dreaming big dreams right alongside me. I had Danielle on the show to talk about her unique journey and her uplifting, but “no excuses” attitude. Danielle has transitioned from a workaholic woman to one of the most balanced, wise, even-keeled people I know. We’re learning more each day about the power of human connection. People are far more likely to trust a business that has a personality behind it. While businesses may have been able to get away with only sharing their products in the past, I think consumers are getting better at spotting and blocking promotions, paid ads, and sales pitches. It simply isn’t enough to only share your work anymore! One of the biggest things I’ve seen this year is a shift toward more authenticity and vulnerability online and through that, more depth of the connections we’re making with our clients, customers, and followers. If you really want to take people from simply followers to true fans, it’s time to focus on creating a brand that shares more than what you have to sell. On the episode I share my Jenna Kutcher 5 method where I take five categories of my personal brand and just rotate through them (including a business thing or two!), but where I strive to create connection points beyond what I am selling. Created a well-rounded brand will give people a reason to follow you even if they aren't currently on the market for what you're selling! Ready to share your heart *and* grow your biz?! Let's dive on in!
I talk a lot about launching and why I love teaching online courses but this episode is going to get super technical and break down the behind the scenes of our fall launch of The Photo Lab! Now, this wasn’t our biggest launch ever monetarily BUT it was by far the smoothest launch we have ever led and for me, that’s the biggest win. I have cracked the code to a smooth, successful launch and I'm ready to share it with you! Trust me, I have lived through bad launches-- the kind where it sort of feels like you are in fight or flight for a week straight? Yup, I've been there. But with minor tweaks along the way, our team has designed a fool-proof way to slow down, systemize our process, *and* still move the bottom line. Are you ready to up your launch game or are just looking where to start? Here is my step-by-step formula to a happy, relaxed, (and profitable!) launch! Let's do this!

You would think with a name like “goal digger” I would be a giant fan of goal setting but the truth is, in the past, it hasn’t always worked for me. It’s that time of year again - the goal setting central time of year when everyone creates resolutions and announces them to the world in hopes that maybe it will actually stick. Now I don’t know about you - but a lot of times I totally flop and fail on these goals and I usually start writing in a planner and by February 2nd, I don’t even know where that planner is and I haven’t written in it for two weeks. 113: The Biggest Lessons I’ve Learned in the Last 365 Days
At the end of last year I did an episode reviewing those 365 days... It’s wild to look back and to see this show was just starting, and this year I got to really take a step back and stare my triumphs and trials in the face as I created THIS episode to help review what 2017 held for me. I’m always challenged when I pull together lists like this because while a year can feel impossibly long at times, it totally flies by in a blur. Creating this show helped me slow down, celebrate, relive some of the finest moments, and pause on the things that didn’t quite go so well. (And I also created a totally free, totally impactful 2017 review/2018 goal setting gift for YOU in this episode!) It’s funny, isn’t it? It’s easy to discount the impact that 365 days can have on a life but when you really slow down, when you really compare, when you really dig deeper, so much can be backed into one single year and today I want to share what worked well, what didn’t work, and where we are headed in the new year. Everything from finances to our incredibly difficult miscarriage all the way to missions trips and body image... 2017 was a whirlwind, and I am so thankful for YOU- the Goal Diggers who have been there every step of the way. Let's cheers to 2018 together, eh?!
112: Navigating Being a Girl Boss in a Man's World
We're talking about something we've never discussed as a topic before... What it truly looks like behind the scenes to be an insanely driven woman in a man's world. Now, it's not all bad by any means, but there is some common inner dialogue that happens with many of us Goal Diggers, and it can be hard to navigate being a lady boss in a man's world. So today I invited the brilliant stylist Emma Natter as she shares her story of how she transitioned from a future as a stay-at-home-mom to primary breadwinner of her home! The tidbits in this episode are not only super relatable but also wildly motivating! Emma is absolutely a breath of fresh air and such a versatile woman. Just hearing her story made me so proud of this brilliant, inspiring group of girl bosses we have in this community. We are defying the norms, you guys. Or should I say, you ladies.
Bonus 04: 5 Things to do Before Picking Up Your Phone
If you rely on your phone for an alarm clock, something tells me that instead of turning it off when it wakes you up, you go down the rabbit hole of checking all your messages, opening every social media app, and checking out your inbox before your feet even hit the ground. While it's tempting to check in on what happened overnight (ya know, while you're busy doing a thing called: sleeping) implementing these five things into your morning routine can keep you grounded, help you be more productive, and increase your overall wellness. What would your life look like if you took an extra 10, 20, even 30 minutes to start your day off right? If you make these tweaks and spend a little time reflecting, stretching, moving, and prioritizing, you'll feel more focused, more excited, and more grounded as you enter your workday. These tiny tweaks to your routine can make a GIANT difference in your daily life!

107: The One Thing No One Tells You About Working From Home
Alright, goal diggers… This is a topic that I have personally wrestled with but have rarely talked about, and I think many of you can relate. WORKING FROM HOME CAN BE STRAIGHT UP HARD. It can be lonely and draining and it is easy to go literally days without seeing anyone besides your roommate or husband. We’ve all been there . I used to be a self-proclaimed “hermit” until I realized that I genuinely needed outside interaction to be my best self. 106: Harnessing Your Skills To Craft Your DREAM Job
Caitlyn Jeffery is my go-to gal and the first lady I ever hired. She is an absolute powerhouse of a woman and true do-it-all-er. A mom, wife, and the Jenna Kutcher brand manager, she used to own her own business as a virtual assistant until she went full time for my team. Since joining my team she has transitioned from email inbox support to podcast supporter all the way to course content and logistic management. Remember when I said she was a do-it-all-er? I MEANT IT! But even though she can do it all, doesn’t mean she should- which is why she is the perfect person to chat with about using your specific strengths to capitalize on her role. Stop letting your titles like "manager", "assistant", "executive" define who you are. "It's easy to wrap yourself in your title", but you need to really look at who you are at your core when you take away your title. "Things change, circumstances change, and who you are at your core- is what your focus should be on your life... and your business as well!". This episode is all about using YOUR strengths to craft your dream job! Goal Diggers, It's time to peel back a layer and really look at yourself.
